110 from 3050 to 3500kgs can it be done? help needed

With the right modifications it can be done! I.E heavier duty springs, increased strength in load bay etc... But as for who signs it off, at a guess I'd say VOSA or DVLA or something, would be best to contact them... Guess it'll probably cost ya' though! B*astards. :P

Just found a bunch of unexpected work on the motor, need to go and quietly sip a beer

Haha it was the noise it made and the apparent violence in which it sticks the metal together that put me off when I was younger and watching my dad fix his landy. But once you've got your eye fixed on the pool of molten metal it becomes quite mesmerising, and tbh I love it now. :P I stick metal...

Just found a bunch of unexpected work on the motor, need to go and quietly sip a beer

Go for it mate! As I said before - I'll happily give you welding tips etc. You'll be surprised at what you'll learn in just an hours worth of messing about with it. :)

    Fitting a tiger shark winch

Make sure you get cable that'll cope with the amp draw! :) I went for 25mm squared cross sectional surface area. Nice to get hold of some high flex if you can - otherwise it a pain to get it to bend round tight angles! I got a blow torch and some solder and made the cables up myself - not too...

Just found a bunch of unexpected work on the motor, need to go and quietly sip a beer

Beats paying £1600 on labour! Although you'll need the time to do it... :)

Just found a bunch of unexpected work on the motor, need to go and quietly sip a beer

Weldings not to difficult. 90% of it is preparation. Don't be afraid to spend £300 on a decent MIG welder and get going, find some scrap to practise on and you'll soon be away - plenty of tutorial vids on youtube - but I'll happily explain the basics if you'd like? :) You'll have to be pretty...

    Rear Trailing Arm

I advise buying standard replacements/OEM equivelent. I just obliterated one of my polybushes last weekend, got another set of standard bushes for about £20 as never had any trouble with them. Polys where less than a year old and where predominantly used on road. I'm using cranked trailing arms...

    Boxgrove tomorrow!

Was good fun! Apart from obliterating my rear trailing arm bush... I'm in the process of editing some of the footage I got of the day - I'll upload it to youtube and post the link. ;) I'll try get it done tonight but my internet is so slow - took me about 6 hours to upload a 15min vid last...

Normal spot lights or LED light bar

As much as I like the look of spots - I'd get an LED light bar, as I think they look better! Plus as above - will last forever. Expensive though! Which is why I've not got a set yet... I just hold a candle out the window.

New Defender 110 XS called Larry!

I've got a set of Insa Turbo Special tracks (aggressive mud tyres) and didn't have any trouble in the snow until there was enough wedged under my axles to lift the wheels off the ground.... :D As for roof rack, if you've got a fabrication shop near buy it might be worth popping down and seeing...

    Diff lock

Do it more! It's all part of the fun! Just get a winch - you'll never get stuck! :) :D

    Diff lock

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hv0jYDWp0ZA I still have to picture it all in my head and work it out to explain it how it works - its hard though! :P
  14. TheRealPlank

    Diff lock

If you've got additional diff-locks on the axles, then when you turn one wheel the other should turn in the same direction as well - if not, with the front jacked up and standard centre diff-lock on, one will go one way, and the other will spin the opposite way.
  15. TheRealPlank

    Diff lock

If you are talking about the centre diff-lock that comes standard - then it locks the front and rear axles together; which means that if you lift one front, and one rear wheel off the ground\loose traction in some way, more power will go to those wheels... and the others will slow/stop after...

I've fabricated my own winch mount - thoughts please!

See I like that you haven't cut the grille - but for me sitting it back just those extra few cms by cutting the grille is worth it for not loosing my approach angle - however it still broke my heart cutting the landrover up - I've still got the bits I cut off, might mount them on my wall hahaha :D

I've fabricated my own winch mount - thoughts please!

Yeah should have somewhere.... I've got a couple of vids on youtube also - not of the winching, but offroading and my landy non the less! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r5JEzmrKHNE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CN_lFyAviLM I'll find the pics for you as well! :)

    Defender 110 as first car

Landrovers are perfect for parking!! Your mum is talking rubbish!! From drivers seat you can see all the furtherst points of the car. Get in any modern vehicle, and you can't even see how far the bonnet sticks out! Makes for very easy parking. Plus power steering, and it's not like it's a...

    Defender 110 as first car

I've got a 90 - not as my first car... But had I been able to afford one, I would have done! Either way, first car is a landrover so you're definitely on the right track!! :D Also - insurance is cheap on landies! If you can get pre tdi model, with a tdi conversion you're laughing! I'm 21...
