It's pretty common for them to be nicked. I've seen something on the market that is basically a round disc with a bracket on the back that holds the cable rather than it being exposed for thieves to cut. Can't remember the name of it though I'm afraid.

Two completely different cars, only you can answer the question based on what you use it for. Disco 2 will still go off road but will drag it's arse on steep stuff due to the longer overhang. If you spend most of the time on the road, it would be disco 2 for me. Off road would be fender or disco...

I haven't got one and mine is loud! Although it has no carpets in at the moment either, and the exhaust is just a straight through pipe. I'll be interested in your findings on this, as I need to reduce noise in my cabin too.

Sounds like one or both of your wheel bearings has collapsed. That's a lot of play so I wouldn't drive it personally, I'd say that's probably beyond tightening it up too. :(

I'm after some +6" extended brake hoses for a disco 2 but can only find +2". Anyone know if they are available from somewhere off the shelf or am I looking at custom made hoses?

Do they not have too much of a swept back angle for a disco? Disco lights are pretty flat fronted. Try photoshopping it to see how it would look?

Disco would be slightly better if you kept it standard, it's not going to be enough to really make a difference to your wallet though. The disco would be cheaper on parts though, so maintenance costs could be lower.

You'll need to undo the bolt on the steering joint to allow it to extend. Your radiator will lift by an inch too, so it would be worth making some pins to support it in it's new position. Other than that, just keep an eye on things like clutch line, heater hoses, fuel filler, abs sensor wires...
