Disco alternator into series 2a? will it be too powerful?

Yeah loads of places - and its the cheapest and most cost efficient way to solve an alternator problem. Search for "auto electrician" in the yellow pages or the online version of it, in your local area.

    winch bumper.

If its the 4x standard M10 bolts, then a back of the envelope calculation suggests they'd support up to 6.4 tons pull. With most winches being around the 12,000lb mark, thats perilously close to the strength limit (2.2 lbs per kg, 1000kg per ton). So if you did a double pull (ie using a pulley...

Disco alternator into series 2a? will it be too powerful?

It won't be too many amps, an alternator doesn't output its max current all the time. Its regulator supplies enough current up to the max. In theory, if your battery was considerably smaller than a Disco battery it might cause issues but in practice, there will be no issues.

    WTF Insurance on Wifes Car

I did the same search (but with my personal details) on compare the market.com: Range Rover...................£712.12/year Mondeo.........................£595.57/year which is what I'd have expected. I'd say you've made a slip-up somewhere in entering the details etc.???

    Hybrid help

The series 3 is 88" wheelbase and the Disco1 is 100" wheelbase. Apart from that obvious issue, there's the moving/fabricating of new body mounts (in exactly the right place, of course...), the bulkhead mounts, the steering column, the dashboard wiring and a bunch of other little bits and bobs to...

    B+E Licences

Yeah you can still have a paper one because its still valid. If you change address, you're obliged to get the photocard style one (which needs renewal after 10 years) though.

    just a thought tdi into a d2.

When I browse parts catalogues and other vehicle listings, Discovery 2 TDI always comes up as an option, although I always thought the only diesel engine the Disco2 used was the TD5. Anyone else see these things?

    winch bumper.

You'll probably find the bumper includes another set of brackets, making 8 bolts in total securing it, instead of the original bumper's 4 bolts. In theory, the winch should stall before you're in any danger of the bumper-chassis bolts failing.

    Tow Bar Electrics

Just out of interest, how is the £40 genuine part different from a £8.99 socket off of eBay (for example: MAYPOLE 12N PRE-WIRED 7 PIN SOCKET TRAILER CONNECTOR on eBay (end time 26-Feb-11 09:26:53 GMT))? £31 for the connector to plug into the car electrics easily? Seems a bit of a rip off to me....

    howdy people! BIIIG problem :(

I can see it. That's NOT a standard alarm system fob. Bypass the whole lot and cross your fingers the car don't get nicked. Can't really help much more, sorry.

Can you post a quick pic of your fob?

    howdy people! BIIIG problem :(

That's odd. I thought the changeover year was 1995. The cars before then, had a 1 button fob; and afterwards have a 2 button. If yours is indeed the 2 button fob then it will also have 2 indicating lights on the dashboard. The round LED bottom middle, and a car with a key on it (top right)...

    howdy people! BIIIG problem :(

What year is the disco? 1 button fob or 2 buttons?

    howdy people! BIIIG problem :(

All Disco's had quite a decent alarm fitted. It sounds suss that an aftermarket one replaced it.

    howdy people! BIIIG problem :(

So....you have a car without the transponder???? Does it have the key symbol flashing on the dashboard when you put the key in the ignition?

    Battery and earth wire location

First, I'll guess its a TD5 but you really need to state WHICH Discovery you own, to avoid confusion or misleading replies.... Yep, that battery's the wrong type because it should be fitted so the terminals are towards the rear of the car, with the -ve being on the right (nearest the wing)...

Sticky second gear on R380 300Tdi

Its not so much the oil you choose to use, but HOW OFTEN oil changes are done. You're right, its awkward to get the oil in. I have a 1 litre bottle which is squeezable and has a flexible spout on it, but since I can only get about half a litre in at a time, it still needs 5-6 refills of the...

    fishsponge's ongoing thread of problems!

The level/fill plug looks suspiciously untouched by tools. I'd have thought your expensive underseal treatment would have worn or marked, with a spanner on that plug.

    fishsponge's ongoing thread of problems!

Its probably better to crawl underneath a car when its -2 deg C than +2 deg C, it won't be so muddy on the ground....
