apart from the VIN itself, there is another set of letters and numbers embossed on to the same plate, all on one line to the following format:
f22*97/15*0202
the asterisks are, well, asterisks - not shown to replace other numerals or letters
what's all that about then ?
ta ;)
i'll give it a go over the weekend when i'm safely away from built up areas - any problems, the thing's in for a service on Monday, so it'll get sorted then i suppose
thanks for your input :)
for a more direct comparison, i got a 2001/Y TD5 ES auto - full leather, aircon, CD changer, metallic paint, oasis steps, blah blah blah - 47500, FSH, and generally in top bollocks nick for £9500
mind - the alarm is a bit temperamental :)
not allowing for any initial inadvertant pressings, just the once as per usual, then probably a dozen or so times from a variety of positions around the vehicle - with increasing levels of panic - before giving up and going for the manual option...
right - nipped up the village earlier to purchase wine and crisps - as you do. parked up on the (dimly lit) high street, flicked the light stalk to "side lights" in anticipation of leaving them on to lessen the chance of agrarian dullards careering up the road and in to the back of the vehicle...
ok - it is apparent that disco's are not going to see you through a week on a tenner at the pump, unless you simply leave them locked in your garage, and even then evaporation will probably cost you that much (and let's face it, what you don't spend on diesel will go on chunky kit kats anyway)...
have you got 255 tyres ?
was speaking to the bloke at an LR specialist when i was shopping round for mine and he said there's a tendency for the wide tyres to "follow" the ruts in the tarmac made by HGV's, whereas the narrower tyres are able to skip in and out of the ruts more easily (and...
right, this is probably old news to all of you, but I thought it was useful, so there
you can download pdf versions of all manner of official landrover documentation (handbooks, accessory fitting instuctions etc) from:
the Land Rover Owner Info site
came in useful for sorting my insurance, as...
thanks people - looks like the cheapest option might be to get a piercing done somewhere, put a keyring in and stick the fob on there to make sure i don't lose it in the first place....
so if i've got these:
with the key itself being unprogrammed, and uncut, and the barcode tags being the original ones from the service manual, can I sort it out myself (the programming, not the cutting) rather than pay those herberts a hundred quid to do it for me, so I end up with a...
i didn't get a spare key, or a security card, with my disco, but you can obviously get uncut and unprogrammed blanks - how easy is it to then "programme" these things ?
as i say, no security card, but i've got the barcoded "tags" stuck in the back of the service manual - would they be of any...
thanks marcus - i was googling for a clarification on the laws like that and kept just turning up all sorts of marketing drivel, as you say, hardly definitive though !
anyway, relevant sprog has had his first go in both front and back seats, and expressed no real preference for either, being...
he's just over 4' (124cm), and it's a proper seat, not just a booster thing - must admit, regardless of size, i thought if you had a passenger airbag it was not recommended to have kids in the front ?
(2001 TD5 ES)
anyone know the ins and outs of the law with regard to carrying a sprog in one of the above ?
i've got a (decent sized) 5 year old, less than 135cm, and I'd like to drive with him in the front - my previous motor (mondeo - no passenger airbag) was fine with him in a child seat...
must be going deaf - it was a Delphi/Freedom battery, ref BE 10254N - and it has the terminals in the middle of the two short edges, as it were, rather than in the corners as with most (normal, sensible) batteries
hope this might be of use to someone....
huzzzah ! tracked down a local independent auto electrician who can supply and fit the requisite item (an A C Delco battery, if anyone else ever has cause to ask for one - i'll post up the serial number or whatever it's called later....)
brilliant people - thank you - only thing is, having wandered up to the local ASF this morning, the battery they have listed for my '01 TD5 ES has the terminals in a different place to the existing (original) one, and the bloke reckoned using theirs would put a "kink" in the earth cable, which...
right - had The New Baby run through the diagnostic system at work today, just for the sake of it, and it turns out the battery is on its last legs and i need a new 'un (not surprising given the forecourt time it's racked up recently)
now - what's all this i hear about battery changes are best...
just picked my dizzy up and - obviously - first stop was the local independent parts place to chase up some entirely unnecessary but entirely must-have bits and pieces
now - with neither item being in stock for me to compare - why would "most people" (to quote the bloke at the place) prefer to...
