    looking for suspension/axle "straps"

Even though I've always adhered to this advice and never let a tire shop lift my RR using a two post lift having changed the front axle on my P38 I'm no longer convinced its the issue its made out to be. I had to drop the axles down below the full extension of my koni gas shocks to remove the...

EAS beeps are driving me mad

Steve, Here is a shot showing pins 1 and 8. You can work out the rest from here. Note that the cable end is near pin 1. Incidently this is how to manually run the compressor, jumping pins 1 to 8. HTH

Wheels and Tyre Choice. Advise needed.

I got a free set of 18's with Acceleras a year ago and since all four of my 16's were down to the legal limit I threw them on. Through a bit of bad fortune with punctures from rocks I ended up putting on two new Accellera on it. To be fair the Accelera's were cheap enough and not that bad...

EAS beeps are driving me mad

Nope, the EAS is completely disabled as the ECU plug remains unplugged. The jumper wire just tells the BECM that it is in manual/diagnostic mode and not to be bothered returning any more fault messages. I went around for quite a while like this one time when my EAS was hard faulted out...

Bigger turbo for p38 dse ???

Mike, Before you go messing too much with the boost have a read of this thread: DSE Power!!! increased boost pressure... The guy Chas is the best guy I've come across on the P38 DSE and has helped me out many times with top advice. He raced diesel Beemers so probaby knows more than most...

EAS beeps are driving me mad

The message can be cleared really easily, you don't need anything more than a single piece of wire. You plug out the EAS harness plug from the ECU and connect two pins with a jumper wire. IIRC its pin 7 to pin 18. Everytime you start the car you'll get the message 'EAS Manual' but thats it.

2.5 diesel warm starting - I hesitate to raise this issue again, but....

Ahh Wammers, read my post again:p I said the resistance of a 'piece of wire' in the temp sensor, never mentioned the MAF. I didn't want to say thermistor as not everyone knows what that is. The engine temperature sensor is a thermistor. The resistance of this changes in relation to a change...

2.5 diesel warm starting - I hesitate to raise this issue again, but....

The ECU measures the engine temperature by measuring the resistance of a 'piece of wire' in the temp sensor. The resistance drops as temperature rises. The bodge uses a relay to switch in an approriate resistance to fool the ECU into thinking that a hot engine is cold. The ECU sees a cold...

    What is this?

IIRC its a plug to cover the access to the bolts connecting the triangular driveplate to the torque convertor. If you're removing the engine or gearbox you need to remove the three bolts through here to split them otherwise you can damage the torque convertor/gearbox

2.5 diesel warm starting - I hesitate to raise this issue again, but....

Good point Wammers. I was poring over a Bosh EDC manual last night trying to get a handle on pump timing and to be honest there were too many variables to get my head around it:doh: I'm beginning to think that rotating the pump might put more pressure on a tiring advance solenoid spring. I'm...

    Am Bloody Stuck

Didn't mean it like that Sparky :o The last time I was having trouble clearing ABS faults the 'no voltage at pin 1 in ecu' was one of them. Turned out to be the fuse.

    Am Bloody Stuck

You've blown the fuse for the ABS, change it and rescan for faults

    Viscous Fan Problem

Wammers on the ball as usual. All the DSE's are a left hand thread. Get the spanner in place on the nut horizontal on the diesel pump side of the engine, put a big screwdriver across the nuts holding the waterpump pulley in place. Then give the spanner a sharp whack with a suitably heavy...

    P38 Diesel conversion...

I'm a big fan of the 200tdi engines and these are supposed to be a big improvement over them but I really don't think they would suit the P38. And for the money you could afford a full Jeremy Fearns upgrade kit for the BMW 2.5 and still have enough left over to have a spare engine at home in...

    Attention Hawkeye owners

If its a DSE with an MAF it will always read -39oC. The early pre-EGR diesels used air temperature to calculate the density of the air for fueling purposes. With the later ones the EDC takes its fueling inputs from the MAF but the diagnostics still return a value of -39 for intake air temp...
