Td5 Discoveries are being slayed at an alarming rate by rear chassis rot. The way the inside of the chassis is reinforced causes water become trapped which means they slowly rot from the inside. The chassis may look good on the outside untill one day the metal splits and reveals the horror beneath.

Yeah, thats mime. Before I bashed the crap out of it with a cold chisel it just looked like surface rust. They really do just rot from the inside out. Seems like its coming to all D2,s.

I didn't notice any decrease in fuel consumption after my TD5 was remapped, but there was no increase either. I think the fact that you have more poke and an all round nicer vehicle to drive, WITHOUT an increase in fuel consumption is fantastic anyway. In my opinion, ( any many others )...

I run 255/70/16 BFG AT,s on my standard suspension D2 with zero issues. 245/70/16 will be almost igentical in size.

Earthing points are worth checking, as well these can lead to reference ground faults in the slabs unit. Just take them all of, clean up and retighten.

Earlier TD5s had a 10p engine which the fuel return was inside the head causing some of the cracking isues. Later, 15/16p engines had the fuel return on the outside of the head. ( 2002 ). I wouldn't let this put you off buying an earlier one though. Rear chassis condition is the most import thing.

You can modify a TD5 defender filter guard to fit the D2.

Sounds very much like its connected to the waste gate modulator. Check the small pipes that connect to it. A split in one would make the hissing sound and cause the missfire under load.

I also had my manual D2 remapped by Mike ar Dynachip, and as everyone else has already mentioned, its the best £225.00 I've spent on the car. He comes to you so think how much hassle that alone is worth.
