What did you do with your Range Rover today

Yeah, the other carb. The right one is good, as far as I can tell. The left one so is a royal pain, its leaking damper oil, borderline impossible to calibrate correctly (it has a tendency to run rich)... Maybe I do a full rebuild, if I miss emissions that is. Otherwise I'll be very happy to not...

What did you do with your Range Rover today

I aimed for the lean side, my very smart manual (which I failed to read correctly more than once by now) says a slight drip is ok. I am at maybe 10 rpm or so, hardly noticeable. Idle is at 800 now, I have the suspicious that something is stuck somewhere. But for now, I don't care. Anyway, the...

Ah, almost there! Fast idle at 1,100 rpm with the choke half pulled out, rpm are ever so slightly dropping when the carb pistons are lifted. Idling speed it almost 1,000 rpm so... No idea how I can get it down, the stop screws aren't making contact right now, so that's not the problem...

Thanks kermit! A pity we are to far, isn't it? If it helps, I get my second jab end of July! But I guess I'll be able to fix it, it ran on the screwed choke pretty well, except for fuel consumption. But we'll see. If she idles at 600-700 rpm, and isn't running rich, I'll try to get through TÜV...

So, everything is back in! The grease worked perfectly. Next thing after lunch will be recalibrating the carbs, considering how ****ed up the were that'll be fun. Especially for my neighbors!

Let's try some grease then... Copper grease or multiple purpose? I got both.

Another thing. In case I don't get Hylomar, a first search turned up delivery on Friday, is that only yo hold the gasket in place? Or is providing some additional sealing?

So, the choke disk was, quite embarrassing for an engineer to be unable to read a simple workshop manual, fitted 180 degrees in wrong direction. Anyway, right rocker cover is off. That's what it looks like underneath: Anything out of the ordinary? First time I see an engine from the inside.

What did you do with your Range Rover today

So, just a quick question. I am about to remove the carbs today. One to replace the rocker cover gasket and the other to fix the choke I screwed up. I have Allmakes gaskets, the workshop manual says I should use some kind of clue, Bostik 1775. Is it possible to fit the gaskets without the clue...

Usually people do that with flight hours. So am I right to assume you own the only working LR prototype of a flying car?

If twice is holding longer combined than expensive, at the same price, everything is fine! I guess... I run Britpart prop shafts, front and rear. For not even a hundred bucks a piece before Brexit, I thought it's easier to replace those than some axle components. Anyway, prop shafts survived...

Unless it drops below 10, then you all of a sudden care. Well, your bank account does anyway.

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Just tried to fix the fuel leak. Well, no luck. The bottom end of the tank breather is brittle but not leaking, the upper end is so. I can get to it to replace it, it's brittle enough that tightening it doesn't help either. And with the tank full (I filled up to check fuel consumption...) I...

New to Forum, had many Landys / RR's

It's always surprising what you can do with some spanners in your drive way. But yeah, a fully equipped workshop would be nice. And the proper training, as opposed to self teaching on the job from workshop manuals! Ah, and welcome!

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Just took delivery of the bits and pieces, especially the engine and gearbox gasket sets are important! So next week I'll replace all the leaking gaskets I can get too, especially oil pan, rocker covers, transfer case and handbrake. Well, I also realized, while picking up the tools to fix the...

What did you do with your Range Rover today

No compression test done yet. I did screw up the left carb already once, so my best guess would be to start there. And to recalibrate both carbs, now that the snorkel is off. Well, I'll do all that once the gaskets are there. I just hope it ain't anything serious... Thing is the MOT is due in...

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Yeah, I would too. Workshop manual says: Swimmer level, carbs too rich, stuck choke, idle too high (it's idling around 600-700, so I'd say that's fine), wrong carb damper oil. In case it is the compression, what can be the cause for that? Cam shaft? Or can it be the ignition as well? EDIT...
