    petrol storage

Those trading standards recommendations are to do with safe storage. They've got nothing to do with the petrol going off. The can sizes you note are recommendations not law although our suppliers are not allowed to supply plastic cans more than 5 litres for petrol. As regards why the petrol goes...

    TD5 Fan (again)

Yes, I've tried wacking it and it still won't move. You can't really lock the pulley up so you just depend on belt friction. I want to get it off as I need to change the tensioner and its a sod to get at with the fan on. Its difficult enough trying to change the belt.

    Disco door handle

If it does actually open, it may not be the spring. The lock mechanism is probably a bit sticky. Get the door card off and get some lubrication into it. Try locking it with the key, not the remote. If it needs a lot of pressure, probably could do with a bit of a squirt.

    petrol storage

Straight petrol will be OK for about 6 months , you may get longer but you can't predict it. Petrol mixed with 2 stroke oil after about 4 months, will do all sorts of funny things. Gums up carbs so you should drain 2 stroke carbs over winter. You can tell when 2 stroke mix has gone off because...

    TD5 Fan (again)

Having been advised that I was trying to get the fan off the wrong way, (I thought it was left hand thread like a 300) I still can't get the thing off. Anybody got any tips.

    Chipping a '97 300TDi Auto...

No you can't chip it as it hasn't got that type of ECU. You can however remove the exhaust catalyst, blank the EGR, clean out the intercooler and adjust the injection pump. All of which will improve the performance/economy to a greater or lesser extent. Do a search and you'll come up with all...

    TD5 fan & clutch

Trying to get the fan off my TD5 Disco. Got the right spanner. Left hand thread. Good whack with a hammer. Will not shift. Anyone got any tips? 2nd question. Assuming you are changing the clutch by pulling the box out from underneath, is there any significant difference between a Disco 1 and a...

    What a Cock!

I often (well whenever I can be bothered) cycle into work in Putney. Have to say, I don't usually have too many problems with traffic. You just have to keep your eyes open. Biggest problem is pedestrians on cycle paths. Particularly kids with i pods plugged in. Completely oblivious to...

    Snow Tyres

I think they put silicone in with the rubber. Stops it going hard in low temperatures unlike straight rubber.

    Wolf Land Rover

If the guy says he's fitted 2 new batteries then it could be a 24volt system so all the electrics would be non-standard. Maybe its 12 volt with main and auxillary batteries. Looks nice and low mileage but seems an awful lot of money for a 13 year old 90. Don't know how much of a premium a Wolf...

Is there a big difference between a 94 and say 97 model

The later ones had a fly by wire throttle and some more electronics on the IP. Applied to all the autos and I think the later manuals but I don't know exactly what year they started. Don't think it caused too many problems though. Bear in mind at that mileage, a 94 might have the transfer gear...

    Progressively heavy steering

As regards changing the pas fluid, I am not sure but I think the pas fluid in a D2 is not the same as a 300. Worth changing it as suggested but I'd check which fluid it is first just in case.

    should I upgrade suspension?

I think you can measure the free length of the springs (removed from the vehicle) and I think there are specs for the actual ride height somewhere. If the suspension is knackered I would have thought it might start hitting the bump stops over rough ground. Unless its had a seriously hard life or...

    should I upgrade suspension?

Considering a 110 can tow 3500kg then a 680kg trailer is hardly an issue. What is the trailer nose weight? If that was too high, then that might explain the tyre wear but it would have to be pretty bad. Our 110 spends more time towing than not and we haven't changed the springs in 130000 miles...

    humming/rummble

I found with my D1 and Defenders you often can't feel any play in the bearing unless you undo the bolts and pull the half shaft out an inch or 2. It is surprising how much play suddenly appears. As regards changing bearings as axle pairs, I think that argument is often proposed by people who...

    rear axle pinion oil seal

The centralising peg is a push fit and pretty tight. There is a threaded hole in the middle (M8 I think). You can should be able to make upsome sort of puller to get it out. Slide hammer might work. Bit of heat always helps and if your changing the seal, then you won't be damaging anything. Once...
