I use 10W40 semi and its fine but years ago when I had an Omega (same engine) manual recommended 5W30 synthetic, up to you. I just use any 10W40 semi thats on offer and change it every 3K miles. Davie

Check for power to the plugs, were the plugs a decent brand or cheapies. Davie

When you have the manifold off just change all the glow plugs even if you find some are still working cause sure as hell you will be back doing the same thing again soon enough if you dont. I fitted Delphi and am happy with them. Davie

Wammers mine has started this "flaring" occasionaly, the other problem I had with the gearbox losing signal has cleared up, if I put it in sport it does not happen (Flaring). I had a Pajero also, had to change the head when it cracked, the 4d56 engine is not noted for its reliability but the Landcruiser is a different matter, the 4.2 6 cylinder deisel is immense. Davie
