I can confirm that Nodge68 is totally correct - you'll have absolutely no MOT problems having removed the cat/dpf or the EGR. In the UK there is no check on cats or emissions on a diesel engined vehicle - there is only a smoke test. My TD4 runs cleaner without those bits.

Check all the vacuum pipes first. Then the air intake and breather hoses. Something is not connected or a rubber pipe is split or loose. Good luck.
