There are threads here reporting similar symptoms. I suggest a search (keywords: fuel, stall, etc.) My TD4 suffered from the symptoms you describe, but it never stalled while running. Turned out it was the fuel pressure sensor (on the left side of the engine, below the exhaust manifold)...

:D I have a very, very light foot. I usually get around 33/34. But that's when I have to do very short runs. When I got 36mpg was almost all 30 mile runs at 70mph.

My last mpg was almost 36. Seems good for a 2000 TD4 auto.

The rear window cable on my TD4 appears to be broken. The motor is working. I've seen how you can fix it with a bycicle brake cable. My question is, how easy is it for a non-mechanically minded person with few tools to take out the regulator and fix it? I could spare 1 hour to do it before...

My TD4 auto is doing an average of 33mpg (that's 8,5l/100) - no mods :) 80k on the clock. Just divide the litres you put in by the kms you did and multiply by 100. To calculate mpg I use Fuel Efficiency Conversion - Online Unit Converter

I believe filling to the brim is the most accurate way do do it. However, the stated tank capacity is 59litre. You can figure out how much there is after the light comes on if you fill the tank again. But probably there are about 5 litres left in tank. I usually calculate mpg (or l/100kms...

Got one from LIDL a while back. Used tape to put it on dash and the ext temp sensor wire runs under carpet to back whell arch - no engine heat there and no direct sunlight :)

Sorry. I had to replace the whole rocker cover, which was cracked and poorly welded. The gasket alone should be rather cheap in comparison :)
