Haha, glad that worked for you. I didn't come across that bit of advice anywhere else on the Internet either so I'm very happy about getting the answer here. Let me know what your experience with getting it repaired is like as ill most likely be doing the same myself shortly.

Barsman, you're a hero. I made some tools out of a wire coat hanger and got the sat nav unit out. With it unplugged the stereo all works! Huge result that as the DSP amp is working, although I guess the chances of my CD cleaner punt fixing the sat nav are reduced now. :)

Interesting! Any suggestions on removing the sat nav unit without the stereo removal keys? I've ordered some but it'll be a day or three until they arrive.

I've just been reading through that thread myself. What a crap way of fixing them! I assumed there'd be some brackets that bolted on behind the lights so there was no need to alter the bodywork. I think that'll get shifted to the back of my to do list for now then. :)

So they leave holes in the wing? I assumed that they would just unscrew and come off without leaving any traces. Bugger. Sas, £60 for sat nav repair sounds good, £450 for a new amp less so; Thanks for the info.

How do I find out the specific colour? Is there a paint code on the panel under the bonnet with the option codes?

So after reading and looking and reading some more I finally took the plunge and purchased my P38 today. Its a blue 2002 4.6 Vogue with cream leather & 114k miles on the clock. As it's a P38 there are a couple of issues for me to work through to get it perfect, but it's a sound base to start...

Can't you pull the self leveling relay overnight to find out which corner is dropping?

Don't crucify my for this, but on Wheeler Dealers (I know, I know) they took an injector off and stuck it in a plastic bottle, then started the engine to test if there was fuel flow. No idea how applicable that information is though! :)
