High Beam warning lamp on when engine running

In all my Discos, newest of which has been a 94, the main beam has also lit dimly when a lowbeam headlamp bulb has had a problem, either failed completely or as in the current one just alittle dim due to bad connection. Not sure its an intentional desgin feature, but certainly a consistent...

    another 200tdi.

Personally I would upgrade waterpump from "maybe" to "will" change. Also guide wheels and tensioners for the cam belt.

    300 tdi running without ecu

Yup, not sure when it changed but early 300s were basic mechanical engines, then went computerised later in the series.

Need help with potential buy of used disco

I did post earlier wondering about the engine size and belt change. From what I can remember of my time in the US, whilst there is no shortage of suitably large engines to offer as a transplant, most of them have chain timing gear anyway. Rover V8s will last for several hundred thousand...

Need help with potential buy of used disco

eh? a 5.2 engine? Thought the colonies got the same 3.9/4/4.6 as we did. Was thinking with all the talk about cambelts that it was an oil burner, but then looked at the ad and saw that engine size with a new belt fitted.

    200 Tdi exhaust

Doing away with either or both boxes will improve exhaust flow. Improved flow makes life easier for the engine. My last disco had no boxes at all, the pipe came out the rear quarter so no back box, and the centre was just replaced with straight pipe, it was a tad louder than stock, but not...

    Landrover Td5 Fuel Economy

Its a legal thing. Trailers over 3500kg must have a "proper" braking system, not just overrun braking. According to my book, with auxillary braking sytems the D1s are good for 4000kg. Doing a recovery on someone stuck in mud could easily have an effective weight of far more than that, and on...

Just bought a p38... Please help me...

If going so far as to split the tranny from the engine, Id drop the box right out and slap a new clutch kit in anyway.

    brake pads?

Vented discs look like two discs side by side with vanes between them. Solid discs are just that. Whip a wheel off and have a peek. Vin numbers are a good start, but more than once I have found vehicles that are not as they left the factory, as previous owners change things around.

    Recovery eyes

Jates at the front, and a pin & jaw type tow hitch at the rear.

    Gearbox oil?

Any motor factors that doesnt stock ATF should be immediately removed from the yellow pages! Haynes claim ATF to spec M2C33 for all D1 manual trannies.

    doing away with abs

Dont forget the hissy fit your insurance company will have when you tell them about the change. Much less hassle to source a recon pump I suspect.

    Blackberry Curve 8900 Nightmare

With mine, its the car kit that gets the software update to accept contact details, not the phone. Unfortunately with my new phone it doesnt do that, and the software version in the kit seems to be newer than the "latest" from the manufacturers website, go figure. So what I did, was use my...

Confused as to what it is

As with the above, my french saloon car (spits) is private light goods. Just about everything under 3500kg is PLG and can actually go higher.

    brakes and air?

Seriously, dragging that around (or even solo) you are unlikely to see any difference at all. The only thing you might get is less brake fade with upgraded discs and pads, but I have never had a problem, even when up at the 3500kg max, in fact, the more I tow, the less I use the brakes. Lots...

    Any Beach byways near Brighton?

From what I recall sussex is carp for byways. However Surrey is good on the way home with a little detour. Ill try find my old map overlays if you like.

    brakes and air?

Unless doing a lot of track days in the disco I doubt there would be any noticable difference, probably not even then. hmmmmm, track days in my 200tdi, that could really annoy some other folks :)

    Possibly 'upsizing' to 3.9i auto

Thirsty??? reckon on high-teens fuel consumption unless you are super conservative with the right foot, then you could be in the 20s on a good run. As for uphill, my 250k mile 200 tdi will haul its way up over the bridge here at 70 without any trouble, and thats steep enough that most drivers...

    transfer box replacement

Defender transfer boxes have different ratios, Disco and RRC are the same ratios. It can be done on the driveway, but its heavy, awkward and some of the bolts can be tricky to reach. It can be quicker and easier to take the gearbox out with the transfer box, then split them.
