    Best tyres

Pirrelli Scorpions are may favourite road tire with pretty good cross country capabilities. Been all over Salisbury Plain, Wales, Surrey and Hants Lanes with them on, and never got stuck just because the tires let me down, just completely grounded on the axles.

    is my 300 tdi lump a 2.5 turbo ?

Yup all 300 tdis are turbocharged, intercooled 2.5 litre lumps. Flushing the intercooler is easy enough, remove it, fill with parafin, let it stand, drain and repeat until clean. Make sure the intercooler is 110% dried out before replacing. Lots fo threads about it on here.

    Towing Confusion

Yes, you can. Much the same as a 17year old can stick Ls on daddys aston martin, plonk daddy in the passenger seat and drive off having never sat behind the wheel in his life. Same applies for all the other categories, long as the regs are met, L plates, qualified supervisor, etc, of you go.

    Towing Confusion

Well as far as I know.... the instructor you called is talking some moo-droppings. Your landy & sankey cannot be used because the view is too good. Nothing to do with buzzers and hitches. The trailer must be tall and wide enough that there is no view through the back of the towing vehicle. It...

    Two Q's ..Rear Lights+ a Vibration

Your wiring loom may have the right connectors in the pillar, in which case its just get hold of the correct clusters, and perhaps change flasher relay Endless possibilities, think the post above covered the most likely suspects

    alarms

You can get alarms that are so simple to fit its one screw one wire. Or of course you can go the whole hawg and get one with remote start, paging and turbotimer too. If you can wire up spots and relay then most alarms shouldnt be too difficult for you.

Nah, the CPC was the classroom learning I mentioned :)

    Towing Confusion

If a trailer has had brakes disconnected, the plod and insurance are going to view it in much the same way if you disconnected the brakes on your disco I'm sure. If a trailer has had brakes, and a design MAM of over 750kg, then that is the MAM that counts. It will not be a 750kg unbraked...

    Which Gearbox?

Trick question :) It depends on the abuse they have had for the last 100k miles. My personal preference is for a slushbox because I am a lazy bastid. Many will argue that the manual gives better control in the rough stuff.

    Towing Confusion

Eh? what do you think the current +E test is about if not to see if you can tow safely? If you can't couple & uncouple the trailer, perform basic maneuvers and drive safely on the highway, you fail. What you desire is almost exactly the current situation, except instead of DVLA running the...

    Towing Confusion

Nah, I dont think its about a rash of incidents, more bloody EU harmonisation seems to be the reasoning behind it. If you passed your first car test before 1/1/97 you have grandfather rights to some much bigger combinations, plus things like minibuses, light lorries up to 7500kg, and various...

    Convert to LHD

Be easier to buy a LHD disco in Europe and sell the RHD here one I think :) Pedal box, wiring loom, dashboard, brake lines, wipers, steering links, all need sourcing/changing. Then of course you need to insure that very heavily modified vehicle!

    Towing Confusion

No. Simple but not very sweet answer I'm afraid. The combination you describe will lead to a MGTW of well over 3500kg. There are 4 weights you need to be concerned with. Kerbweight of your towing vehicle. Dont have this to hand, but its around 2000kg I think. Im sure someone with a...

    Novice

I have (somewhere) a meter and patch cable, unfortunately my workshop is at the wrong end of the county for you guys. Whilst an antenna can be supplied "pre-tuned", it will be tuned like an engine, a basic compromise setting. Even the length of your antenna cable can throw that out...

    New MOT Test

Yup, its a pain, and not very consistent in some respects. Our family caravan is an old, and by most standards light one at 970kg mam, legal for a new driver to tow with the 200bhp, 4.0 litre J45p, but not legal for the 200tdi disco with little more than half the power. All because the disco has...

    New MOT Test

There is a little proviso there, the tacho rules and similar only apply for most business use, you can tow your own caravan with no tacho, but not deliver one to someone else. If you passed your first car test after 1/1/1997, driving most landrover products with an average (or even quite...

    Supply/fit a reconditioned 300tdi, R380 gearbox into a 90?

Nuts, bolts, fluids, lubricants, hose clips, seals, belts, clutch, mounting bushes, injectors, other ancillaries need fitting too which can add on to the bill with new nuts & bolts. There can be a lot of parts involved with replacing an engine if the job is done well and properly, it partially...
