Black smoke on putting my foot down

Yeah, that is a point but after modding it I haven't had the time to fiddle around with it yet due to life lol. Just wanted to know if anyone else had an MOT issue after the boost. Thanks for you reply.

Black smoke on putting my foot down

Yes I agree they have some kind of governor but I don't think they want to check to see if the governor is working correctly, but I may be wrong. Doing that would only take a few seconds but from the memo they said 'sustained periods of time' so that can't be just a governor check. When I...

Black smoke on putting my foot down

I did find the original memo as follows - 'Please note that as part of the MOT test, Diesel engines are run at high revolutions for sustained periods of time, it is important to be aware of the condition of your diesel engine, especially with regard to things like camshaft drive belts prior to...

Black smoke on putting my foot down

Thanks. I did say that I found the article after a search. I will however contact the station (which are very good) and address that part about their memo on reving up the engine without load, but my main question was regarding injector pump mods to increase power and if that could affect the...

Black smoke on putting my foot down

This is what I found after a search - I first qualified as an MOT tester in 1985, and the diesel smoke test was introduced some time after that. I always felt that the test was flawed, and that it was totally unnecessary to rev the engine right up to its limit. The vehicle would never be driven...

Black smoke on putting my foot down

I had a memo from my MOT centre last year and the said that they will run the engine at high revs for a prolonged period and could take responsibility for any issues. This did worry me at the time. Tickover was the norm once as you say. I'm sure they're trying to wreck engines.

Black smoke on putting my foot down

Thanks but as I said I'll have to see how it goes and if it fails I will return the settings. To do that on the off chance is a pain. I was just wondering if anyone else modified their pumps without MOT issues.

I am sue that would be the safest option, but I'll probably leave it and see. Thanks for replying.

Black smoke on putting my foot down

Anyone assist here? I modified the injector pump (1997 300tdi) for extra power. I didn't touch the main end screw, just the star wheel lowered by ¾ turn and the collar shaved down by 2mm and top screw (pre boost) in by 1 full turn. Although the power is really noticable, I find that on...

    New MOT regs re diesels?

It wasn't anything to do with a test that's why I was asking if it was a new addition. My point was the engine ran at high revs in neutral (yes something wrong with the engine) but it blew up after a minute.

    New MOT regs re diesels?

I hope I can have a While U Wait then.

    New MOT regs re diesels?

I have been present at the old tests with the pipe down the exhaust but I was OK with the revs then. If it's still the same that'll be OK.

    New MOT regs re diesels?

If it's just for modern diesels then I can now sleep peacefully.

    New MOT regs re diesels?

Just wondering if they differentiate between a BMW M3d and an old 300tdi. Also the memo makes me wonder if they have blown a few up.

    New MOT regs re diesels?

Never heard of this before, so maybe thay have thrashed the F out of in in neutral before. I really don't like the sound of it as I once had a diesel which ran away and blew up and that was only for less than a minute!

    New MOT regs re diesels?

Do you know what revs and for how long? My station is now closed otherwise I would call them.

    New MOT regs re diesels?

Just received this message from my MOT testing station. 'Please note that as part of the MOT test, Diesel engines are run at high revolutions for sustained periods of time, it is important to be aware of the condition of your diesel engine, especially with regard to things like camshaft drive...

    Small vacuum tube

Yes I have all sorts connected. It doesn't go anywhere, just tied to the cables as you noticed and it had a screw in the end. Just doing some work at present when I noticed the pipe so it is a bit untidy. I bought it in 2006. It only had 36k on it and it's still in great condition except from...

    Small vacuum tube

Not a great image but with my crappy camera it's the best I can do. The black thing on the right is the air cleaner box.
