    Freelander as a first car

Currently on month 10 of driving with the freebie as my first car. Insurance was around 1150 for the year, by comparison a ford fiesta was 1000 so not much differece really. If i do bump it at any point, its a sturdier car to take a bump with. Plus its nice to drive. Got a 1.8 myself and do...

    Spotlight brackets - dimensions please

Theres a lot of info on them here with a comparison gif that makes them look pretty good. Best Cree Led Light Bar Reviews Guide for 2014-2015 Trying to decide whether to replace my old lumpy lights with these or fitting one of these to the front instead. Gonna have to have a measure up and see...

    Spotlight brackets - dimensions please

Has anyone tried out these new LED light bars that are cropping up? I was toying with fitting one but would quite like it to be fairly streamlined with the front of the car. Are there any issues legally with taking a dremel to the front plastic part of the bumper so it sits flush and mounts to...

Dealer breaks window, your thoughts please

They break it, they fix it. It really is as simple as that. It didn't have a broken window when you dropped it off, now the window is smashed. There's no way they can umm and arrgghh about it. I told a mate at work about it and he'd had something similar. He took the car into a garage to get it...

    Freelander 1.8 not starting

Yeah, mine were worn to the point where two of the 4 brushes were barely touching the copper contacts inside the motor. The brushes needed replacing and the contacts in the solenoid were shot. There was an awful lot of dust in there when i stripped my starter motor down (really easy by the way)...

    Freelander 1.8 not starting

Looking at the engine from the front of the car its the silver lump around 8 inches long thats attached to the back of the engine quite far down on the right hand side. If you stand on the passengers side and look behind/under the big black plastic air filter section its under that and should...

What tyres do you have on your freelander

I used to hate my pirelli's. When i went from those to BFG AT's the difference was incredible. The car actually gripped on corners and no more tyre squeal or slipping in the wet!

    Engine replacement 1.8 possible options

Mine had all the same symptoms, bubbling tank, losing water top hose hot and bottom cold. Eventually it got to the point where the top hose was boiling water, the expansion tank had it leaking out the top and the head gasket had completely gone. Turns out the water pump had failed and wasnt...

Replaced Clutch master & slave cylinders

Mine has a slight movement as well and was newly fitted just a few weeks ago. so long as the bite point is a couple of inches off the floor and it engages/disengages properly when in use it wont be a problem.

    knocking noise

Yeah made me giggle when i was under the car looking at the wobbly gear linkage to see the mole grips sat there quite happily. Its done 350 miles with those still under there!!! Seems like the clunking noise is gone for me now so that must have been the grips knocking on the back of the...

    knocking noise

Okay, so mine MAY have been caused by a pair of molegrips that i left clamped to one of the smaller undertray bolts behind the IRD unit. Will be giving it a test drive in a few minutes to see how it fares without the grips touching the IRD hahaha

What have you done to your Freelander today

Where abouts did you wire that up to and did you need to remove the instrument panel to fit it? I take it they have a light bulb holder style screw thread or something to hold them in place.

    knocking noise

Did you undo your lower tie bar mount at the time? I fitted my new polymount at the bottom and had it bolted, loosely. I then put the car jack under the oil tray and jacked it up 3-4 inches so i could swap out the top mounts etc. Replaced the rear rubber mount at the top with the standard type...

    knocking noise

I've done the same thing with mine. Was trying to replace my top engine mounts and one of the bolts that attach the metal arm between the hydromount and the side of the engine would not come undone. I did the same thing, jacked up the engine by 3-4 inches to allow the bracket to lift over the...

What have you done to your Freelander today

98p cherry blossom shoe polish (scuff remover with the sponge tip, not liquid wax one) from morrisons. Mine were really pale so slapped on loads for the first coat. When doing the second coat it sort of smeared the first around a bit so i ended up "dabbing" the rest of the coats to avoid...

    Heater

From the ebay listing: It takes 2 minutes to pull it out. Take a look at it, if the coils are damaged or burnt out then try a new one. If it looks like this: Then it's probably something else. If it looks like this: Then i'd wager it's the cause of your issues. It's really easy to get...

Theres a set of coils in the drivers footwell, right at the back of the center console. It looks like a green rectangle (colour may be different however) held in with two philips screws. Rectangle is around 4 inches long and 1.5 wide. It has a multiplug attached to the center of it. Undo the...
