Freelander 1 Head gasket vs inlet manifold gasket

That would make sense, the car itself is on 172k miles but my dad found a rover test bed engine a couple of years ago that only had 40-45k on it and had it fitted when his old block was scrap.

Whoops, doesnt sound great!! I have to be honest though, i did rather enjoying replacing the gasket. Its the lack of power now thats bugging me.

Freelander 1 Head gasket vs inlet manifold gasket

I didn't really unplug any of the vacuum hoses i dont think, just pushed the inlet manifold out the way and took the head out. I might have disturbed a hose though so i will check it all after work. I took the sensor cable out and cleaned it off but it was high revving again last night, trip to...

    Freelander 1 Centre console swap

So now my car is kind of running again i wanted to swap out my head unit for one that can do bluetooth etc properly. Only going for a cheapy chinese jobby but was seriously considering double DIN so i can use the screen as a reverse cam as well. Now i was thinking i'd have to spend ages shaping...

Freelander 1 Head gasket vs inlet manifold gasket

Hahaha, i step away for a few days and you guys treat me to pictures of your kitchens!! :D Luckily i have my own place so nobody to moan at me if i make a mess, swings and roundabouts. So i've driven about 100 miles and taken the first batch of oil out and swapped the oil filter. The old one...

Obligatory photo's!! The anount of mayo i was getting on the oil cap. Oil leak that had been running down behind the timing belt cover The block with head removed. The cylinder full of coolant seemed to drain off somehow overnight. No idea where it all went too! The cylinder with...

Freelander 1 Head gasket vs inlet manifold gasket

OKay, so i found my issue i think. I put my cambelt tensioner on slightly wrong. The allen key hole was at the top, not at the 6pm position. Found another forum where someone else had done the same, got it lined up with the spring okay but was still tensioning wrong. 5 minutes later and it's not...

Freelander 1 Head gasket vs inlet manifold gasket

So its been rebuilt, cranked it a few times by hand to make sure it was ok. Fired it up and it lived!! The bad news is it was still smoking heavily from the exhaust. Ths other even worse is after 4 miles my engine began to make a funny noise and now it sounds like this... Any ideas for more...

Freelander 1 Head gasket vs inlet manifold gasket

Okay, cheers for that. Thought i'd check before getting the drill out :D Seems odd to have such a large hose attached when the hole is so tiny inside. Yeah there was a lot in there. The stuff inside that'd been exposed to the oil had turned rock hard as well. There were 3 of the oil...

Freelander 1 Head gasket vs inlet manifold gasket

Yeah its in neutral and covered over for tonight. Had a piece of wood but no piping to build a makeshift clamp with the old headbolts so it'll have to make do without for tonight. Back on it first thing tomorrow morning so it won't be like that for too long. Yeah i read your thread you linked...

looking for a lift kit can anyone help??

I read somewhere that the 50mm lift kit requires longer brakes hoses, camber bolts, wing trimming etc. But that 40mm and below just requires the inner wing trimming. Do you know if thats true by any chance?

Freelander 1 Head gasket vs inlet manifold gasket

So i've gotten it apart, crankshaft pulleys are tight aren't they!! haha. Was having to do it solo so i put it in 5th gear and got a 1.5m length of wooden post to wedge the brake pedal down and clamped down on it by inclining the drivers seat back towards the steering wheel! Didn't...

Freelander 1 Head gasket vs inlet manifold gasket

I'm hoping my bolts are good, they were from gaskets for classics as recommended by someone else and the guy seemed pretty knowledgeable when i spoke to him on the phone. I'm sure i'd still be concerned whilst tightening them if i'd picked them up from the landrover dealership! haha. I also made...

Freelander 1 Head gasket vs inlet manifold gasket

Thank you, those are some good pointers and i'll have to make sure to check all the little oil passageways. So my friend dropped round earlier and we had a chance to sit and look at the exhaust smoke in the daylight for once. He seems to think it has more of a blueish tinge to it and reckons...

Freelander 1 Head gasket vs inlet manifold gasket

They did indeed. I didn't know much about it back in january but have done a fair bit of reading since then. I've got an MLS replacement, a payen BLUE bw750 and a set of feeler guages sat on the side ready and waiting so i can check it myself and fit the most appropriate one once the head is...

Freelander 1 Head gasket vs inlet manifold gasket

Found some ANEROBIC SEALING COMPOUND FROM VAUXHALL PART NUMBER 90542114 at the local vauxhall garage for £9.50. Someone else on another forum said they used that for the k series engine without issues so i'll go grab a tube. Do i need the genuine cam locking tool as well?

Freelander 1 Head gasket vs inlet manifold gasket

Nowhere has any locally and online retailers are going to be around a week before i can get some. I have some loctite 638 in the cupboard, reckon that'll work? Both anaerobic, same temperature ratings but 638 has a shear rating of 25nm as opposed to 518 which has 7.5nm. Saying that though i'm...

Biggest size rims and tyres for Mk1 TD4

I thought this was the sizing... 215/65R16 7Jx16 ET40 5x114.3 M12 x 1.5 64.1 Edit, yes it looks like the standard alloys are 7j width. In which case he'd only need to match the offset for the steel ones to fit the same size tyre as me.

Freelander 1 Head gasket vs inlet manifold gasket

Got an MLS gasket kit sat on the side here from gaskets for classics. Just about to order a payen bw750 gasket so i've got one of each type here and waiting. As soon as the payen arrives and the weather holds off for an afternoon i'll take the adventure into head gasket replacement. When the...
