Possible fuel pump death need advise please

Torsen, it sounds as though it is still the in-tank pump that is the culprit to your starting issue. I noted you tried a seperate 12v feed to the pump and it didn't work. You could try removing the unit and stripping it down like I did. Messy job but mine has been fine for weeks now after...

Freelander won't start after re-fitting alternator

Agree and it's always like the Freelander to break when you've tinkered with something else making you think it's something you've done. There like women these cars :) Have you trawled through all the posts on here relating to non-starting? lots of good tips. You haven't said what engine...

Freelander won't start after re-fitting alternator

Strangely my intank fuel pump refused to start after I changed my alternator. I guess a period of inactivity can allow a 50/50 fuel pump to stick fully. Just sods law.... I had success stripping mine down to the motor and blowing it out with compressed air. You could try thumping the...

Freelander won't start after re-fitting alternator

Silly suggestion but could be that the lead that goes from the alternator to the starter is loose. I'd check to be 100% sure.

    '98 Freelander Problems, Lots of.

Try removing the pads and pumping the pistons out a little bit (but not too far) If there are any splits in the seals the ends of the pistons will have crud on them which prevent them returning fully after braking. It could be that when you cleaned and greased the sliders you have worked...

Possible fuel pump death need advise please

It shouldn't do that... No relays just a motor in the tank. If you lift the back seat and the carpets up to access the pump cover you can hear a working pump for the 1st 30 seconds after the ignition is on. If you don't get a whirring from the motor and you have a 12V feed to it then my guess...

I must be unlucky Mantamad, it's never ever been the "simple solution" for me!! :) Had it on a Honda S2K, BMW320D, Volvo S60 and the Hippo.

    '98 Freelander Problems, Lots of.

In winter with the heater on hot the warm "moisture laden" air gradually cools as it gets to the back of the car. Due to the poor circulation vent on the freelander that "moist" air condenses and collects at the lowest point in the back....the cubby hole. I take your point about damp carpets...

    '98 Freelander Problems, Lots of.

Hi There Coolant loss and the swimming pool in the back will be from a leaky heater matrix. Try some K Seal or similar. Most people also drill a hole in the cubby hole to help water drain away (common problem). Brake binding is because your dust seals on the calliper pistons are shot. You...

    Freelander Faults poll

Every time my Freelander breaks I threaten to sell it. But then I fix it and think what would I buy instead? Faults in order after 5 years of ownership of our 2002 TD4 Kalahari Hard Back with 118,000 miles... Injector fubared - fixed but head had to be removed as injector was stuck...

Possible fuel pump death need advise please

Thought I'd add my tip about the in-tank fuel pumps to the latest thread I could find. I had mine stop working a week ago and was really annoyed as I'd only replaced it 18 months ago. It was dead, nothing with ignition on or with a live feed from another battery.... Before I lightened my...

    TD4 IRD Problem? Please help

Ok, Investigations completed :o Turns out I had a small tear in the Calliper boot and the ingress of moisture has caused the lip that the boot sits in to rust. This has then jammed (as rust swells) the piston which in due course has not allowed it to return. I was so convinced it was a...

    TD4 IRD Problem? Please help

Thanks for the replys, much appreciated! I've dropped the oil and apart from a bit of sludge on the end of the drain plug magnet the oil was clean. I've removed the propshaft completely from pinion to pinion - not as difficult as I thought! I decided try the "bench" test on the VCU out of...

    TD4 IRD Problem? Please help

Just found an interesting read about the VCU at this place Symptoms - Bell Engineering they recon the tests to see if the VCU is fubar'ed are complete rubbish! I was contemplating replacing the VCU and getting shut of the car but i don't know how to check if the IRD has suffered. With both...

    TD4 IRD Problem? Please help

Hi chromiumuk, I'm resigned to going "mondo" as it really isn't an option to spend that kind of money on a car thats probably only worth 1500K in tip top condition. So hopefully the IRD has survived enough to still drive the front wheels. The slipping clutch theory is what i was thinking...
