    new problem today

Singvogel, the Gibbons method replaces virtually all the ATF in one go. It also doesn't drain the ATF as you intercept the cooler return line, you "pump" the ATF out and you also prevent the old stuff from re-entering the sump. By using the clear tubing it allows you to spot firstly when air...

    new problem today

I bought 12L of ATF and my XC90 has a capacity of around 8L (can't remember exactly) so rule of thumb says about half again of the total capacity of the Jatco box. All you need to remember for the Gibbons method (assuming you can intercept the return from the cooler) is to save enough ATF to...

    new problem today

My thoughts exactly about the dealer ATF. It will be mineral based to quite a low specification. "Flaring" as they call it between gears is usually due to wear in the corresponding control solenoid but as has been said a fluid change will often correct things especially if it is changed as soon...

    2002 TD4 - another won't start....

If you are referring to this switch http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/755237-post3.html then it is the fuel cut off switch which can be but is usually not the problem. 9 times out of 10 it will be fuel pump failure.

ird unit or auto box help needed asap please

Process of elimination... Job well done in my book. A lot of folk would have thrown in the towel by now. Just as a last note, is it worth taking a look at the box yourself? As it seems a mechanical fault surely it must lie with the final drive...just a thought. Good luck, hope it's not too...

    SNOW what to expect ??

I run the Uniroyal Rain Sports and have been through some pretty crazy places in the snow. Never once have they let me down and the looks you get off the tratter boys (complete with snow chains) when you're in "their" playground..

Jatco Gearbox Fluid. What Are The Alternatives

My Freelander is a manual but my XC90 is an Auto. I did loads of research into ATF when I changed it in that and went for the Amsoil ATF from Opie. It is JWS3309 compliant (which I needed) but also covers the Dexron stuff. Take a look for yourself and see what other people say about it. BTW I...

ird unit or auto box help needed asap please

The ATF sounds like it defo needs freshening at the least if not a full flush. IIRC you can only see one side of the diff gears inside the IRD. That would be my guess.

ird unit or auto box help needed asap please

From what you've described I'd be leaning towards it being the Jatco box at fault here although I've no idea what failure can produce your problem... Have you dropped the gearbox oil? What colour is it and does it smell burnt? When it skips drive do you get any noises and if so can you isolate...

4 new tyres - thud at rear

When my diff mount went I got the same symptoms and it was the front mount that needed replacing (bit of a PIA to do too). A diff mount can look Ok but will be split away from the housing on closer examination. Check it carefully and yes they can just "let go". The other cause is apparently the...

    replace VCU bearings or not?

If you can get the old ones off without killing them then go for it. I've tried and despite all my wizardry and know how I couldn't get them off in one piece.

Good point although he doesn't actually say?? Maybe he should try a Bluetooth one instead :D

    OBD fails to connect

Are you pairing your device first? Is it an Android phone you are trying to connect? Every time I connect my HTC I have trouble but then remember you have to pair the device to the phone before the software will find the OBD device.

    Help vibration.

If as you say nothing has been found with the suspension or drive train and you had an improvement by swapping tyres then that's got to be the culprit. If you have fitted "sub-standard" cheap tyres (no all cheap tyres are sub-standard) then they could have a fault. For instance a cold tyre...

    Help vibration.

A sticking calliper piston or pad slider can cause overheating of the disks. If it's prolonged it can cause a cracked disk that when hot will make the disk warp. This can cause a vibration but it would be felt through the steering too. I would hedge my bets on it being a defunct or nearly...

    New owner, some help please

Looks like a DMF replacement one piece flywheel. I'd be sceptical to fit one of those after the things I've read on other forums. Just thinking though, if the "bind up" in the drive train is that bad would this cause a tired but otherwise serviceable clutch to slip?

    New owner, some help please

Well it's been said by other members here but I feel I should add some weight to the comments. Vibration at 55mph is almost definitely the VCU locking up because it is no longer functioning as required. If it is the VCU it is straining all the other parts of the drive train. The VCU is a...

TD4 Auto - Gear change problem

As well as having the Freelander I also have an XC90 (needed 7 seats) and I had problems with a harsh change from 3rd to 4th in that. As there are a lot of auto XC90's around there is a bit more information about to help fix problems. I cured mine with a full gearbox flush using the "Gibbons"...
