Well, today didnt go well! was on my own so was quite hard to move the rods from under the car at the same time as spraying penetrating lubricant. undid the centre console bolts and also the hand brake locking pin type thing but bouldnt manouevre the console over the hand brake! freeezing cold...

Cool! Which did you use mate? My only concern is starting it but not having screws etc to put it back on

Thanks guys, il try it on wednesday on my day off.. is the 13mm spanner nut obvious as that sounds like an option too to free it up? Also should the lever push 'left' from being in high gear to being diff locked or do i need to put both levers into neutral, then push the transfer box lever...

You can although it's not always obvious so could be missed, I think it will be them but obviously I haven't seen it but that's what usually happens when they go

Ahh so all the mechanism is in the gear box tunnel? Is it a case of unscrew the gear knobs, remove all gaitors, remove sound deadening then the centre console? Thank you

Thanks for that, it's my 1st landy but like to get my hands dirty and get stuck in, my knowledge is sadly lacking on these cars though! Have previously fitted mi16 engine to a pug 205gti but don't really know where to start on this!

Stem seals possibley as when the car is left the fluid will settle and on start up will burn off whatever is there and once warmed up will lessen as it won't get chance to form and settle

Done a quick search to try fix my diff lock but to no avail, well I recently bought a 300tdi, fdsh, t reg with 65k on it. Previous owner used it for school runs etc, not even a tow bar on it. I don't think the diff lock has ever been used as I can't push the lever over to engage the diff...

Halfords are still doing the offer and there own brand ones are made by ring I believe

thats what i meant mate, i meant mine was standard with the viscous fan still attached and not in the boot. I havent removed mine with the 32mm nut which has the left hand thread ;)
