    Freelander 1 Tyre Query on 2005 TD4

Thanks for the input. The bloke at the garage who took off the VCU had suggested it was a 1500 quid job............he also said there was no need to inform the insurance company.........so additional query would be now that it is a 2WD does that need to be told to the insurer? Cheers

    Freelander 1 Tyre Query on 2005 TD4

Hi All, I've got a 2005 TD4 Freelander, around 100k on the clock. Last year I had the VCU removed as it was on its way out and advised best to get rid (or spend 1500 quid on a new one). So it's now effectively a 2WD. Just had a new pair of tyres put on the front of the car.........now I know the...

    Freelander 1 TD4 OIL ISSUE

Thanks. Seems odd that it's overlooked as when the oil leaks it does seem like there's a major problem ahead...........cheers

    Freelander 1 TD4 OIL ISSUE

Just a quick update on this problem. I did replace the breather filter (the old one was so clogged it was more like a seal than a filter! and suspect it hadn't been changed for quite some time) and also the air filter while I had the covers off. Bit fiddly to get the back bolts off/on but...

    Freelander 1 TD4 OIL ISSUE

Thanks for the reply. As there hasn't been any other problem ie no loss of power, no smoke I'm hoping it is a simple as the breather filter. (By the way the service was more than the oil/filter, I just wanted to mention these items for this post). I've attached 2 photos to show where the oil has...

    Freelander 1 TD4 OIL ISSUE

Hi All, so here's the issue. 2005 Freelander TD4 done 100 000 miles. Had the car serviced 6 weeks ago so oil change and new filter. Have done 1000 miles since then. Drove it for 20 miles yesterday. At my destination saw oil on the floor. Looking in the engine bay LOTS of oil around, mainly in...

Freelander 1 TD4 Using lots of engine oil......

Freelander 1 TD4 Using lots of engine oil......

I wanted to update this thread as the problem was solved. Turned out the seal on the oil filter had gone and that was the cause of the excessive oil use. Have replaced filter and seal and using normal amount of oil now ie, hardly any! Thanks for all the advice. Cheers

Freelander 1 TD4 Using lots of engine oil......

Hi Mike, I topped up the oil a couple of weeks ago, to the right level on the dipstick near the max. Checked this morning and have just put another litre in and it's only just back to the right level, so around a litre in 2 weeks. Normal use driving around 200 miles. Thanks

Freelander 1 TD4 Using lots of engine oil......

Hi All, 2005 TD4 Sport, done 100 000 miles. In the last couple of weeks the car has used a lot of engine oil, much more than usual. There isn't an obvious leak, there is no sign of oil in the engine bay, the car is driving normally with usual power levels and no excessive smoke from the exhaust...

    Freelander Brakes - help needed

Hi, thanks for the replies. The pads do have a lead edge and I've fitted them in the correct way. I did run the new discs with the older pads as they still had some wear left on them and I'd been advised by a mate (he runs a motor racing team/is an engineer so trust his view) that best to run...

    Freelander Brakes - help needed

Hi, 2005 TD4 owner, 100000 on the clock. 6 weeks ago I changed the front discs and 3 weeks ago I changed the pads, so all nice and new. No problems for a couple of weeks. Now here's the issue. I'm getting alot of noise/squealing when braking at low speeds, particularly under 5 mph. I've cleaned...

Help required re indicator fuse - Freelander 2005 TD4

Hi, So I've managed to locate/find out what was causing the indicator to work when indicating right but not left. If I push the fuse in with some force the indicator works on both but soon stops working when going left. Mate suggested it's the connection between the fuse and the fuse box. My...

Steering Noise - one side only.

Hi. Just driving my TD4 2005 Freelander home and out of the blue, ONLY WHEN TURNING RIGHT, I'm getting a noise that sounds a bit like rubber rubbing on metal. No vibration, no tremor in the sterring wheel, just this noise. Also makes this when the car isn't moving. Any suggestions? (I did check...
