orderd the pipes and blanking plate today. gonna take the intercooler out tonight. think i,ll use a couple of bottles white spirits to clean it through.then soapy water.that sound ok ALSO the little pipe that goes onto the egr , the very thing black one , it goes to a little unit at the front...

i,m going to order a set of pipes from rimmer bros or paddocks i think . but if i was to clean out the intercooler , what would i use and can it be done in place. thanks again ps. plus a egr blanking plate. the little pipe that goes onto the egr -- whats it for and what do you do with it...

cheers lads - these lamiated hoses are they ridgid then , as all of my hoses going into the intercooler are a bit soft/squishy. inside the short pipe i,ve removed it is very oily - is that normal. can it be run with out the intercooler pipe attached thanks again

right heres what i,ve found out while messing with it this afternoon. the turbo intercooler as a short pipe coming out the top of it this goes into a metal one , then another short rubber one that attaches to the manifold ( i think ) there is a T junction in this which goes to the EGR (...

thanks guys , tick over is fine its noisey as soon as engine reaches over 2,000 revs in each gear and i think its getting worse . just hopeing LR direct will send a replacement , and i can keep this on the road till it arrives , then ,ill return the duff one. anyone here had any dealings...

i,ve just replaced the knackered alternator with one i bought from LR direct. everythings working but boy is this alternator noisey:cool:, only had it on a few days , but every time the engine is under load it makes a whirring sound and you can really hear it inside as well as out. does this...

not me:) the one on the transmission fluid. its a 1996 300tdi auto box , i need to check the fluid level , but for the love of god i can not pull out the dip stick from the tube. now i,m 20 stone and been lifting weights most my life , so fairly strong but i cant shift it at all:o any ideas...

thanks for the link question :- if the alternator thats on my disco is original which amp will it be 65amp or 100amp. what is the advantage of upgrade to 100amp if the original is the 65 thanks

e-bay had only one that i think would fit and that was £147 , tenner more than paddocks:rolleyes: there is a place not too far , but he needs my old alternator and 3 days plus £110 + vat to recondition my unit , i thought that was a bit steep , but maybe i,m wrong . i,m not 100% sure which...

thanks guys -- yep the alternator is kaput , so need to take it off to get it recond . belt looks like it needs replacing as well , so just need to remember wish way round the belt goes back on ie over or under the pulleys

how do i change/take off the serpintine alternator etc belt on my 96 plate 300tdi . i cant see any way it comes off , do i need to take the cooling fan off or the cowl from the radiator or both is there a how to guide anywhere thanks

The Alternator as failed on my discovery 1 , i,m trying to find a replacemant , but which one ?? its for a 1996 300tdi (NON aircon ), serpintine belt type . i,ve looked on craddocks and paddocks at the ones that say are suitable but both look totally different . anyone tell me for definate...

now sorted - did as above and let it the full 30 seconds or more this time and every thing started working again --- weird:p

i,ve still not got round to sorting mine out , i just have to leave it unlocked all the time now tried the EKA code which got it running but still got the lock/unlock and immobiliser prob , if i use either the key or fob it just goes back to the immobiliser state . anyone got any more tips...

thanks for replys guys no no code given , just turning of the door lock with the key got it out of immobilised stated . but now cant lock it or used fob because doing either resets it to immobilised i,ll have another read of the owners and haynes book , maybe try the battery off / on , but...

do you mean the door lock or the RAC :D its weird , this happened on the first morning of heavy snow , and wondered if there was any connection ie damp etc. the RAC have been out twice now and got us home but cannot explain the problem. the chap just tried it after looking in the owners...
