    300tdi rad refit / oil loss ?

Many thanks I got today to the point where I had the timing case back on ... the new damper pulley on. Rad and intercooler back in place then it was virtually dark. A Land Rover owner from the next street came around and suggested that I try starting the engine before it went dark. So...

    300tdi rad refit / oil loss ?

I've repaired the crankshaft and done the timing and fitted new damper pulley and refitted the radiator and intercooler. When I took off the rad I had to remove the two metal pipes on the left ( oil cooling ). This area was filled with oil and some oil ran out of the bottom hole before I could...

Damper pulley / crankshaft damage / repair

Thanks Yes it is the early toothed pulley. It is solid and will not come off. I tried a puller kit and broke the puller centre bolt trying to get it off. So it would probably need cutting off so I left it on. Col

what to check for when buying a discovery.

So when I bought my Disco a few months back ... my method of ... " I know nowt above Land Rovers fella ... is this one ok? " ... not a great buying technique then. If I buy another I'll be having that serp belt off and grabbing hold of that damper pulley and seeing if there's any...

Damper pulley / crankshaft damage / repair

Some of you may remember my post about the damper pulley on my M reg 300tdi Disco going all wobbly and then failing. I thought I'd put a post up showing some pics of the original damage and how I attempted to fix it. So for those of you who have a similar problem and remove the damper pulley...

    Disco cold starting

Hi mate If I were you given what I've just gone through in the last month ... If you have cleaned and checked your earth and +ve connections on battery and starter ... I would get a brand new decent battery. A 5 year old battery has done it's time and these -10c temps will be making...

    Disco cold starting

As soon as mine spins quickly it starts instantly. That's why I don't think it's fuel. I never thought it was glow plug related ... if the engine was spinning but not starting then maybe. ... but when mine won't start it is always because the engine turns very very slowly and then kills...

    Disco cold starting

Mine had a new set of glowplugs ... cost 230 quid ... long story. Didn't make any difference. Jonathan ... That's exactly what a mate of mine said. Back to the old days with an old paraffin lamp under the sump in a mornings eh? Col

    Disco cold starting

I may as well add my tuppence worth ... I've had exactly the same. 1st start after a frosty night. Slow turning and flattens battery. Once started it starts all day. Park it on a hill and it jumps in minus 10c after 20 yards. I tried 3 batteries. All the same. Up to 690cca. I...

    More Disco.. what's going on?

That's the problem. At the moment it's stuck up the drive with no crank damper on so I can't get it to MOT. To get it running and get it tested I need to fix crankshaft and fit new damper. It makes sense normally to do the mod on the timing whilst it's all stripped before bodging crankshaft...

    More Disco.. what's going on?

... from another site ... 300Tdi timing belt modifications Around 1997, Land Rover dealers started to report that some 300Tdi engined Defenders, Discoveries and Range Rovers were suffering premature timing belt failure. The belt was rubbing against the flanged edge of the...

    More Disco.. what's going on?

Hi Dave I've done a bit of reading up. There were two mod kits ... Kit 1 had the new belt pulley with the side lips, a new tensioner pulley with no lips, new idler pulley, a new bracket for the fuel pump and a new timing case. The cost was substantial and initially around 200 quid...

    More Disco.. what's going on?

Guys I've been reading up again and what's with all this talk of the early Discos ( mine is a 94 ) needing a FULL mod with a new timing cover and fuel pump bracket? So can I not just fit a new toothed pulley and tensioner and idler pulley? Col

    More Disco.. what's going on?

Many thanks Dave Thebiglad ... cheers fella ... I think the modded belt tension has been reduced from 15Nm to 11Nm. Col

    More Disco.. what's going on?

Also Links to kits with decent tothed timing pulleys. The new mod kits have lips on the toothed bottom pulley but I keep reading that some of these are just spotted on and break. Col
