    Nuts for turbo outlet manifold?

I had to remove the turbo at the weekend, and the nuts connecting the exhaust to the turbo cross threaded when I removed them. They don't look like standard nuts and I am in a desperate hurry to get 2 for tomorrow. Anyone know where I can get these from? Thanks

    Are all replacement turbos equal?

Hi, I need to purchase a replacement turbo for the TD4 and see quite a difference in price for a refurbished one. The garage who diagnosed the issue said "Oooh, you don't want to go getting one of those ones off ebay" Now, he may well be correct, but I am hoping someone on here can maybe...

how to change turbo on a TD4

I thought I'd post my findings here just in case anyone else struggles. I followed the above guide and it all worked as described, except for removing the jubilee clip on the oil return hose. I was unable to do this from under the vehicle, and eventually managed to access it by leaning over...

Do I need to drain oil for turbo change?

Morning all, I spent a good few hours yesterday trying to get the turbo off via the following method. http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f9/how-change-turbo-td4-221780.html I have taken the oil banjo off, but want to check whether I need to actually drain the oil before I remove the turbo...

    Turbo replacement with axle stands?

About to print that off! Only remaining question is around clearing out the oil that is in the air inlet manifold, inter cooler ... Can I use a water based degreasant or would I be better off using petrol and then just let it evaporate off for a day or 2?

    Turbo replacement with axle stands?

Thanks. I thought the IRD did need to be removed and I am so glad I can do this without having to do that. All of a sudden the job feels like one I fancy tackling! I might actually purchase a pair of ramps just so that I can get the vehicle as high as possible.

how to change turbo on a TD4

I was reading the Landrover RAVE manual regarding turbo replacement and it suggests removing IRD, driveshaft ... I thought that sounds like a right bugger of a job, but having read this post I have decided that I am going to go ahead and give it a try! Many thanks for taking the time to share...

    Turbo replacement with axle stands?

Hi All, Garage has confirmed that the turbo has gone on the TD4 and before agreeing that I am going to do it myself I just wanted to ask the following questions. 1. I have seen a refurbished TD4 turbo on ebay for £320. Is this a good price or can you get them cheaper. Not sure I...

    Smoking when revving whilst stationary

So given that it is smoking so badly, can anyone give me some tips as to how to move forward with a diagnosis. We cannot really afford to take it to the garage and to be honest it cannot be driven as the amount of smoke is something else when you try and drive it. Just for my own...

    Smoking when revving whilst stationary

When you rev the vehicle it sounds lumpy and very agricultural. Sounds like its knocking. The revs also don't pick up quickly. What ever is happening, oil is going somewhere where it should not be. How can I check whether the turbo seals has gone.

    Smoking when revving whilst stationary

I have just put the BMW breather mod in, new air filter, oil and oil filter. It is smoking so heavily that I think something is very wrong. I drove it up the shared drive and then stopped. It is smoking so bad that there is no way I can take it for a drive on the main road. Just wondering...

    Smoking when revving whilst stationary

The crank case filter did look very dirty. There was oil still in the vehicle as I have just drained the remainder out. I am just crossing my fingers that the oil came out of the dipstick and hasn't blown a seal. Will replace the crank case filter later and refill will oil. If it still...

    Smoking when revving whilst stationary

Definately, oil. No diesel in there + the smoke has that very distinct burning oil smell.

    Smoking when revving whilst stationary

Ok. Just did a quick strip down. The air inlet manifold is dripping with oil so that is why it is smoking so badly.

    Smoking when revving whilst stationary

Thanks chaps. You have given me some things to look at. I will take the belly tray off tomorrow morning and jack it up. I will check to see whether the oil is coming out of the dipstick. I will report back tomorow

    Smoking when revving whilst stationary

It is burning oil. The wife checked the oil earlier and it was way low. She topped the oil up and it is leaking oil. There is a big patch of oil on the driveway. Just wondering what could be causing the car to smoke badly (from the exhaust) and oil to be leaking out. I can't see where it is...
