Synchromesh is for girls!! I am 17 and just started driveing on my series 1 soo i had to learn to double d clutch!! after 3 weeks i can now get it into first on the move almost everytime (not that you ever need it!)

Are the series 3 6cylinder and 4cylider gearboxes different in anyway other than the bellhousing?! Eg can i replace my 6cylinders gearbox with a gearbox from a 4 cylinder if i swop the bellhousings over?!! cheeers

I think its a matter of luck! Because i have takon two out one out of series 3 it was a complete pig! And the other week i removed 1 out of my dads 1957 series 1 107 and it popped strait out! So goood luck!!!

I might have the overdrive blanking plate and gear knocking about if your desperate for one, give us a shout if you need it.

The middle position is a neutrul position,

if its started sudenly then it may be a leaky injector.

They sound like the rare automatic ones i hadnt heard about them till i read an article about them in one of the land rover mags last year the guy couldnt get them to work!! Someone on here will know about them,

Is it running on 4 cylinders? Because i dropped a valve on mine and it had all the same symtoms but was running on 3, If not 2.25s have been known to slip teeth on timeing chain which would also explain it. Hope this helps Jon

Hi I have a 1952 series 1 80" And it has intermitent chargeing am getting fed up with it now so thought I would fit an alternator insted of a dynamo. Does anyone know what else i have to change except the dynamo for an alternator? Do i need a new voltage regulator? Cheers Jon

Sounds like a core plug to me, and that one is almost impossible to replace without removeing the head. Sorry for the bad news!

I took two off cuple of weeks ago! Some idiot sold me them both for 200 quid! Stuck one on ebay and one on my series 1 and made 65 quid! Was pleased with that!

I think an overdrive is one of the best series mods to be honest! Noise difference is great! and saves fuel!! And my series will now do 70 in the flat!! (that is flat out! not bad for diesel!) Cheers Jon

A friend has givon me a 1971 (tax except) range rover 2 door with a very rotten body. If i were to shorten it to 88 inches and fit a 2a or series 3 body, would that still be classed as tax exempt? cheers Jon
