Thanks guys, any chance of me having a prod have well and truly been rained off. The alternator fault message only comes on if it's been started then restarted in quick sucession, e.g getting fuel. Within a few seconds of pulling away it goes and all is well (ish) again. Mark, you have mail! mick

battery reads 12.5 then goes upto 13.6ish when engine is on. Just checked and yes, pressing the lower left stalk clears it. Would disconnecting the battery for an hour or so clear it? mick

Yeah, the best way I can describe it as it's normal for a few seconds when you turn the ignition on then it gets brighter then normal, brighter then normal ect. Where's the ecu? thanks mick

well, put another bulb into the backup srs holder, ignition on an airbag fault appears and now the srs light is pulsating, continues when the engine is turned on. Bugger! mick

It certainly is a strange one. Now that there is sctually a lamp in there, comes on with the ignition then after a seconds goes out, the airbag fault messahe remains. I didn't put a bulb in the second srs hole, could that be it? The only fault code to do with the srs was bulb open circuit, no...

For that sort of money I'd want it to have and extensive service history as it's been in spain for most it's life has it been serviced properly? I'd want evidence of a gearbox oil and filter change (spain is hotter and dustier) and make sure everything electrical works including ACE if fitted...

Those were the same type holders I tried yesterday, couldn't get them to fit with the two metal prongs on top, cut those off and they fit but don't work. Are they polarity sensitive? thanks mick

Just tried to bodge it by getting the bulbs and holders from halfrauds, slightly different holder but doesn't work. Nothing ventured and all that! Will scour the bay of e and emmots, if no joy there then I'll try what shaun suggested, 'borrow' from non critical lights. Thanks for all the help...
