Running probs - diagnosis help please!

Hi, I found out that the cold starting problems only happen when running petrol - at low speed it runs ok on lpg. Above 50mph though it still hesitates a jerks like a cross between minor backfiring and wheels out of balance. Tested relays for noise by running lpg and removing injector and...

Running probs - diagnosis help please!

Um.... :frown: maybe... Was quite expensive though and seemed to make a difference so thought it was ok!

    Noisy relays

Not been able to test injector flow yet as still doing the xmas thing at inlaws. I did devise a different test though, which was to unplug the injector and fuel pump relays whilst engine running LPG with xurious results. The clicking noise continued, so im now thinking it may be the LPG...

    Noisy relays

Relay is reasonably loud, you can hear it from the rear passenger seats but its not deafening. Plugs, dizzy cap, rotor arm and HT leads are all brand spanking new original parts. Will cekc injectors, seen them on craddocks or similar for £40 so not the end of the world even if all 8 required! No...

    Noisy relays

so if the emulators are part of the injector circuit, the relay would still be activated by the ecu, it's just the signal would never reach the injectors? One other issue is the consumption. I know its going to be heavy being a v8, but i seem to be burning half a litre of gas per mile. Does...

    Noisy relays

I had a look on the bulkhead as you suggested, but I couldn't see anything that looked unusual. that said this is my first landy and i've only had it 4 weeks so still working out what everything in the engine bay does. tried to find more out about LPG and understand there are 3 different types...

hmmm thought that might be the case. Same checks, then i.e. injectors? If they seem ok what would be next on your list? by the way, do you ever sleep mate?! ;)

    fishsponge's ongoing thread of problems!

There is some logicto back up my statement... somewhere... Infuriating probably goes without saying having read the posts... I cant remember who posted the comment re "I need the toilet, should I go? What colour paper should I use? Is pink better than blue? etc etc" but i summed up things...

    Noisy relays

right, not had a chance to test the system yet but I took her for her first long drive today and was running LPG. Above 40mph I noticed that the engine was juddering, a little like when a car back fires but nothing like as severe. At the end of the journey (75 miles) the petrol indicator light...

    fishsponge's ongoing thread of problems!

fishsponge - I have just taken god knows how many hours to read this complete thread back to back... and I have to say i have that at time you have infuriated and others inspired. Well done.

    Noisy relays

great, thanks for your advice, appreciate it! The fact that it runs better on LPG would indicate that the emulators are ok from what you're saying, and its potentially injectors and/or air or gas leaks.. never a dull moment with a landy is there!

    Noisy relays

How can I find out what type of LPG system i've got? I assume that the LPG and petrol are independent in terms of delivery i.e. if i'm running petrol the fact that it has had a conversion is irrelevant when trying to make it run perfectly on petrol?

    Noisy relays

That makes sense. So the fact that the injector relay still clicks when running LPG would indicate that I don't have emulators I assume? Think i'm going to have to find more info about LPG conversions. Does it sounds like thats the fault, or one of potentially many?

    Noisy relays

I did check relay, when putting current across the coil there was an audible click. Thought you said this meant it was knackered! Perhaps this noise is normal then? Not checked injectors, how do you? Is it just a case of taking them out of the head, leave them connected and turn the engine to...

    Noisy relays

ok I ended up going to a main stealer and replaced the main injector relay. THe new one makes exactly the same noise as the old one!! To recap fishsponge style (nearly reading his thread, fantastic! Hopefully i dont ask as many stupid questions but you never know).... It's a 3.9 V8 D1...

    Noisy relays

well that's worrying, it's my injector relay that clicking! As I said though it clicks just by passing current across the coil when it's not connected to anything other than the battery?

Sounds like you're in the same boat as me mate! Welcome aboard. If Northampton is out the Leicestershire is the next best thing. I'm slightly concerned about the 10mpg i'm getting from the V8 and would rather burn it laning than on motorways..

    Noisy relays

Ok, so ive bought myself a multi meter! (about time really) and tested the relay. When there is no voltage across the coil, pins 87 and 87a are connected. When current is applied across pins 85 and 86, pins 87 and 30 are connected. The relay clicks loudly when current is applied though...

Running probs - diagnosis help please!

Just to make a change, I thought you lovely people may be able to help diagnose a running issue with my brand new (to me anyway) 3.9v8 with 127k miles and an LPG conversion (that i haven't been using - all of the following is based on running 95 Unleaded) To start with, I found it was missing...
