I bought new tappets and then found it still tappy so got a new cam. so they had ran on the old cam for less than 100 miles and no I didnt do tappet preload either . To be honest I dint know how to and still dont . No one one google can decide on how they should be done properly or it just...

Just another thought. Ive progressively rebuilt this engine because of the tapping . Its had new tappets first because the old ones was tapping too then came a new cam etc . Could my new tappets have failed due to low oil pressure and being non original . Oh I now have 41 psi so happy with that.

Well been running for a while and as soon as it got wa the tappings back . I put 20/50 in . And im wondering if 1 the oil is too thick to prime tappets or 2 I have some faulty tappets . Im beginning to hate this car .

Im just filling with oil and gona try and fire up .

Ive also messed around with exhausts and found that back pressure makes a difference a big difference on performance . Im now running cats . Terafirma straight center and the normal back box . Gives nice burble without annoying neighbours.

Well no one came back to me so its now all back together . Fingers crossed it works ok

ive just filed the lower holder no 3 down and now the lower thrust bearing fits perfectly , so the no 3 both have upper and lower thrust bearings in , im a little concerned about the gap or lack of gap between the cap and bearing and the crank see photo ,ill wait to see what people think before...

Thanks zen ill keep them in mind for future parts. Ive just spoke to john eales and he said just file the lug hole out a bit to accept the lower thrust bearing so that it then matches the upper thrust bearing . See photos on page 5 . Once all them are done I can torque up and make a start on...

Oh ok . So basically I got ripped of when I could have bought them at 1/3 of the price I paid .

Ive just looked and they are the ones because it only comes with one upper . But they ate britparts and Im not a fan of their stuff . Bad experience restoring a series 3. So opted for genuine buick parts .

Ive just found out that 3.5 and 3.9 main bearings are the same , in the center or no 3bearing holder sometimes only has the upper has a thrust bearing and the bottom one only accepts a plain bearing ... Rover Main Bearings 3.5,3.9,4.2 ( Quality Federal Mogul Brand) - V8 Tuner ***Note***...

just been on the mahle website and these bearings are for a 3.5 and mine is a 3.9 efi

I presume so , I bought them from john earles , he sounds like he knows his stuff and I got good ones as well, cost 120 for the set, mahle clevite made in the usa

ok looks like its been made wrong then , its strange because the no 3 one lower didn't have the flanges on it , it was just a normal one .

this is what I mean ?it dose say lower on it aswell and its the right journal no 3

thanks ,im going to do the conrods once ive done the mains , so the bearing with the flanges both fit on the center one no 3 , but the bearing lug is slightly of and wont sit in the journal , im can file down the bearing lug so it locates but not sure if I should.thats the lower journal not the top

help again im just doing the mains and the kit I purchased . two of the bearing have flanges on the sides , one went into the center top but the engine has not got another bearing with flanges on , I presumed it would go on the last bearing number 5 but it don't , they are both smooth bearings...

cheers . ill get the parts ordered tom , is there any special lube you need for the new bearings to go in.
