    upgrade to DPF FL1 td4 2L auto

No, no - plenty of big-engined low-efficiency-rated cars still thrashing along the autobahns - it's just they don't get into the city centres. Germany is still a car-loving, speed-happy, free to drive anywhere country. Unlike some others I can name. I have a whole strip of stickers (or...

    upgrade to DPF FL1 td4 2L auto

Not so new really - it's just that it's starting to bite more than before. Back in 2007/8 the good old EU gave all countries the 'right' to have designated 'emission zones'. So London imposed a daily fee - to make money. Germany introduced a window sticker system to show how clean or...

    upgrade to DPF FL1 td4 2L auto

Your on a loser trying to fit a dpf to a FL1 to get a green sticker from TUV TUV rules don't allow aftermarket fitting of such things to upgrade from a euro 3 to a euro 4. They decide which colour of sticker you can have from the log-book emissions band - not from any 'illegal' mods...

    Ready to head home.

Thanks for the supportive comments guys. We left Nürnberg (Nuremberg) on Saturday morning heading north to Frankfurt am Main and then crossed into Belguim at Aachen before finding a hotel in Valencienne in France. Of all the countries we crossed I have to say that the roads in Belgium are...

    Ready to head home.

Thanks for your good wishes guys. On day one we were held up a bit and didn't get away from Tuzla (Bosnia) until 11 o' clock - so much for the early start, eh. We did 415 miles up the motorway past Zagreb (Croatia) - then to Ptuj (Slovenia) and on into Austria past Graz to stop for the night...

    Ready to head home.

We've just finished a 3 week stint in Bosnia Hercegovina. We set off for home tomorrow. I've spent the last 2 evenings getting ready: Washed, vacuumed, windows polished, headlights polished. Bumpers and plastic trim restored to black. Wheels cleaned, tyres dressed, and pressures...

    hi folks an help please

Yes it is - but I can't tell if that is the genuine BMW part or a copy. From any BMW parts dept the cost is 23.35 inc VAT - might be safer.

    Td4 engine oil?!

I run my TD4 on 5W-30 fully synthetic oil that meets the LL01 BMW spec for that engine. I would have have no hesitation in using almost any brand that had the LL01 spec printed on the container. The oil you show on eBay is a 40 grade which is no extra benefit unless your engine burns oil in...

brake fluid leak and strange rotating noise help

If needed nice cheap Pagid wheel cylinders available from Eurocarparts with at least 25% discount but only on-line if you use their click and collect. I was thoroughly pi**ed off when I went there and couldn't get the discount by just walking in off the street. Solution - went outside -...

    hi folks an help please

If you have oil from the dip-stick that is a 100% sure sign that you have a blocked crankcase breather. As said - you need to get the BMW part - ASAP before anything else. Ignoring this advice will hurt your wallet. Good luck. Haud forrit ma loon!

Mine too. But some have no pin.

    Where does this go??

Just to be clear - if the OP already has an EGR by-pass all he needs to do is stick a golf-tee (or similar) in the end with the black arrow and cable-tie the hose out of the way. Silencing the duck noise, if it appears, is in addition to the above.

    Where does this go??

Shove a golf-tee up the pipe and forget about it if you have a by-pass.

    Dakar Rally

Yep - it's good to see soldiers (or ex-soldiers) driving LandRovers competitively again. There used to be a whole section for them in the old RAC Lombard Rally - they were absolutely amazing guys. These Dakar blokes deserve great respect and every encouragement.

    DIY 96000 mile service

Freelander 1 TD4 is a BMW M47R made in Steyr, Austria. The cyclone/vortex Oil Separator you need costs 23 quid from any BMW parts dept. Freelander2 / Evoque / Mazda / Mondeo etc. use a Ford-PSA diesel. It's sometimes referred to as a Duratorq - one of Ford's DLD engines. So really it's a...

    DIY 96000 mile service

Keith - your squeaky brakes could well be from a lip that has developed on the discs. It's caused partly by wear and partly by rust expansion on the outer edge. You then get a glazed effect just on the outer rim. I just go round the edge tapping the rust off with a small hammer. Most...
