i thought i had the same problem until i noticed that a previous owner had fitted a borg warner transfer box when changing from v8 to 300tdi. i had the ctr console out and all the rivets drilled out to try and sort a sticking leaver before i noticed what was what.

my later model disco 1 does have a transponder but its not in the key its in the key fob for alarm and c/locking. if yours is the same you will see a black plastic ring around the ignition barrel just behind the key hole. if your starting it with a screw driver be sure to keep your key fob close...

have been looking into doing that but for the cost of the coupling alone i should be able to get the LT230 complete. i have looked on a few websites and the coupling costs anywhere from 300 to 800. thanks for the info on the propshaft. cheers jay
