back under the car,cheers for the help i'll post my findings.

as I ve not fitted a new ball joint ,is access to the ball itself under this top,it looks like a cap but so much crap on it cant see if it will come off to give you access to find were allen key goes.

tried that wammers (should have said),still turns . does the top of it come off,opposite end to the nut,cant quite see on mine if there is a joint ,its a bit rusted up.

anyone ,:confused:cant drive the thing till I can tighten this up.

No not replaced anything ,started to undo nut (top joint only)then thought better of it, I have read up on setting after replacing ball joints. so just want to tighten it up again but the whole thing turns.

Hi all,trying to tighten up the top ball joint on the swivel housing, but the nut and threaded bar are turning as one,any ideas how I can overcome this,cheers.

Hi Emma, area around gear stick and outside around vent flap just below windscreen(think a repair has been done here),and any bad bits under car . Basically trying to figure out if any major work is needed , thanks Clive

yes it does ,my mistake not sure on position of bearing ,will let you know when I get to that stage. I can see why the whole hub is sold as a replacement now,labour alone in a garage could be expensive to replace bearing alone.

makes sense chort, not got the bearing out yet,looking at it can only see it coming out 1 way.

Got the hub off,what a job ,made up a puller 1/2 inch steel bar 2 holes to fit over 2 opposite wheel studs then center hole with nut welded over this to recieve bolt ,which is tightened against end of drive shaft to "pull' hub off. this cracked the joint enough to allow me to get a chisel into...

found an old post were the use of a drilled bar bolted across 2 opp wheel studs,is then used to hammer against to remove the hub,if it worked for him worth a go.

thanks for the link,I did read this before starting the job ,hub seemed to just come off in his write up.

puller looks like the tool needed,once off I can take hub to get bearing taken out and new put in.

the carrier is what the steering arm etc is bolted to on the back of the hub, so undo all of that and take whole lot off. Rave just says undo bolts and hub will just come off?

shaft, moves,hub not moving at all,tried tapping back of the brake disc with rubber mallet but nothing.
