Exactly the same as my V8. Heat shield is ok and the black connector is there - not connected to anything. Nothing to connect it to so wouldn't worry

I have no experience of 265 65 18 tyres. However looking logically 255 55 18 has a total diameter of 73.77mm. 265 65 18 has total dia 80.17nn. I would expect that with this difference in diameter the tyre will under certain circumstances foul the bodywork of the truck - especially when off road...

There is no timing belt on the V8. The engine has timing chains and exr=tremely unlikely that there is a problem with this

I agree. Ticking noise on a 4.0 V8 is definitely not normal. Could be piston rings or something on the cam shaft

BFG or General AT2 are fine for light off roading and also very good on road. I don't see the need for suspension lift - the discovery is very capable without modification. You may consider a steering guard and diff guards a useful investment

Living out in Poland we have snow from any time now through to April. I have BFG Long Trail on the RRC and General Grabber AT2 on the Disco. Never had a problem with either of them in either snow or ice over the last 8 years or so.

I think you'd be better to buy in either France or Germany nearer the Alps. Snow chains are common over here and all supermarkets will stock them as well as accessory shops. Much cheaper too because of the turnover.

ACE and PAS share the same reservoir - so yes fluid is identical for ACE and PAS

Either BFG or General Grabber are first class on a Discovery - can't go wrong with either of them. IMHO 100% better than Goodyears. Had them once but never again.
