    Defender 110 Re-Wire

When I did mine, I eventually pulled the battery box out and built a new one. All my extra wiring goes out the battry box IIRC, following the main live cable to the starter. The wiring is cable tied to the battery cable under the floor. Does that make sense ? There is also on the left side of...

Over the bonnet on a 300Tdi defender SW on an overland trip by ourselves. We were told the crossing was safe for the Defender. River Kwai in Botswana. No I didn't walk it because there was six crocks on the surface. Set off low range second, difflock in. Watching the splashes at the wheel...

The looms I've taken apart where there are splices are not just wires twisted togeter and soldered but have a brass connector in there. There is a story from the early 1960's about MacLaren and Brabham when the both drove for Cooper. Both were building theor F2 cars at the factory. Bruce...

    Condition of head ...

Check, check, check. Picture two. Is that a crack from the injector to the valve seat. Normally you get cracks from the heater plugs but as long as the cracks are 5/ 6 mm long things are alright. mike

    Fecking terminal block bodges!

Yes I've heard that too. If you take a Lucar connector apart at the wire end. You'll see it's been crimped BUT there's some kind of soldered type joint on one face of the connector. No I haven't been able to decide what it is. mike

    Defender 300 sump removal

No, just undo the screws. I leave a middle one in each side to hold it up in place. Make sure the joint faces are CLEAN. Wurth do a good sealant. Check the rear vertical face for holes. Try to leave filling the sump with oil for 24 hours until the sealant has set. HTH mike

    Fecking terminal block bodges!

I too wish people would do a proper job including following Land Rover/ Lucas colour codes. Those red wires are a bit heavy for side lights :lalala: Me I only use Lucar connectors now. Crimped and soldered :smokin:

    Poor brakes on Defender 110

Have you checked the servo for cracks ? Look very carefully at where the master cylinder is attatched to the servo. You could find cracks there. Servos don't last very long before they crack. mike

By as 'eck you lot don't half run very high tyre pressures. :) Do the chalk test and see what the result is. I run my Defender 110 SW at 30 front 34 rear fully laden to MGW. Taking the tyres off at 40,000 od miles the tread depth was less than 0.5 of a mm across the tread of all the tyres...

Just looking for sum help and advice

Bump has answered your first question. Have standard suspension, then you will not be stuck for days running around some foreign place trying to get bits made when they break. Try to keep the roof load as light as possible. I know that's difficult. When you load, try to have the heavy stuff...

Nothing wrong with playing with a 110....You've missread me...... Nothing wrong with laning in a 110. Really it's the same width as a 90 ??? The 90 is only a shorter version of a 110. It's only the turning circle that can make thing a little different. Nothing difficult about a 110...
