    Motorail in europe?

Not too bad on the german Autobahn as long as you decide to drive as fast as the trucks. Overtaking is sometimes an adventure with Beamers and Audis with more than 200 km/h on the fast lane.

    Motorail in europe?

I think you have a problem with the Defender on a german or austrian train. They only accept cars with less than 2.05 meters. The next problem is: Depending when you want to leave, at the moment there is no train between Austria and Germany because of the refugee problem. According to the...

    Disco 2 MOT aftermath :-(((((((((

The Chassis is not very thick, I`d cut the Airbag support out and replace the rotten parts with proper material. Then weld the support back on or find a replacement. You are really lucky to live in a country where chassis repairs are legal. here in Austria that is a big problem, so you have to...

    Disco 2 MOT aftermath :-(((((((((

Hi Griff, You Need a dezent welder And someone with a bit of knowledge. As far as I know welding a chassis is legal in gémany but they want to see if the work is done properly. For the ballpoint, is no big deal with the right tool. Try to find a kit for the Dana 44 axle. Ball joints removal...

    Is anyone running 255 / 70 / 16 on a lifted D2?

There might be a theoretical loss in acceleration but not too bad. The Speedo is spot on with the GPS and there is a 5% delay on the trip counter. My car has done 350 000 km on the first engine and still reaches 155 Kmh flat out. (sometimes, with the wind from behind after praying to all gods...

Discovery TD5 1999 Head Gasket JOy!

On a mj 99 it is unlikely that the head Gasket is original. They were fitted with plastic dowels and tend to wear.

HELP - Disco 2 Td5 cranking but not starting - Fixed?

I have no clue about higher electronics but it is a well known fact here in Innsbruck that cars behave like that. I can often use the remote locking but then when turning the key the immobiliser light is on and the car is cranking but not starting. A friend with a MJ 2000 Disco faces the same...

HELP - Disco 2 Td5 cranking but not starting - Fixed?

There are random problems with radio signals from bars. I usually have the same problem on three places near me. It helps to push the car a few meters away and try again. This electronic **** from Orderman is on the same frequency and causes problems on various cars. I disabled the electronic...

    advice on cylinder head skim

Did a few 300 TDI in the last year, one was from a farmer high up on the mountains. So no maintenance at all. IT was constantly overheating and so the head should be warped. After checking the head was perfectly straight but he wanted a new one. I ordered one from Paddocks, installed it and the...

How to learn about vehicle maintenance?

At 18 with no money for a mechanic I told myself that cars are built and maintained by people with no more hands than I have, so it should be possible for me to get it done. Now it's still a hobby and I do engines and gearboxes. Tools find the way to the shed much to easy and the better half...

    Snow plough?

A lot of Housekeepers here in the Alps use 90 Defwnders for Snow clearance. But a decent kit isn't really cheap. Look for something with hydraulic lift and tilt, otherwise it is not that much fun.

    brake pedal pulsing under braking

Had a very bad pulsing and just on hard braking a judder in the steering wheel when the wheel bearings were shot. But the problem was just there when you stepped on the breakers. When the pads managed to steer the wheel bearings in the right position the breaking was great.

    Series 109 6 cylinder diesel

I'm not in the mood today to make a rare Spanish car with French papers roadlegal here in Austria. Better find an old Series 2 with Austrian paperwork and rebuild it from scratch. Or the best would be, there are rumours about a 106 series one lhd first owner from new still regularly on the...
