    Manual Vs Auto

I did say "half way decent driver"! A auto will not know about the muddy hill twenty feet ahead until it gets to it. A decent driver in a manual will hit that hill at optimum speed/gear. I'm not saying autos are not great for very many drivers. They simply are not better for those who can...

    Manual Vs Auto

How can a auto ever be better off road? A half way decent driver will be one step ahead and in the correct gear BEFORE any situation arises. A auto can't do that and will only change gear when trouble has already started. Or do people not read the terrain ahead off them anymore and drive as if...

    Here she is

As above, if your happy with it for the price then all is well. I recently paid £2,000 for a '98 Tdi with 144k on it. Only issue has been the scumbag dick that sold it claimed the belts were changed at 140k, feckin weren't as the alternator belts snapped the other day. So another four hundred...

    Manual Vs Auto

Manual every time. Had both in Disco1's and the auto was terrible, and uneconomical, for my needs (country lanes, farm tracks and fields mainly). Guess if your driving in towns and main roads a auto would be easier. Besides, an auto in a V8 and you are damn near looking at gpm rather than mpg.

    Scared from Bristol!

Didn't realise I had a multichanger for two weeks, it doesn't work though, so fits in well with the rest of the car.

Price comparison between local supplier and ebay.

It's a problem these days, thanks to the banks reducing or eliminating overdrafts for small businesses. Back in 2009 my bank reduced my business overdraft by 80% overnight without notice. A business that needs that money to buy parts would be royally screwed.

Price comparison between local supplier and ebay.

The only reason to ask the customer to pay for parts would be to keep the business below the vat threshold. Or if the business is cash poor and doesn't have credit facilities with the supplier. Beyond that it makes feck all difference if parts are put through the business or not.

    r reg disco for sale

I'm quite upto date with Tdi prices having recently bought another myself, and paid to much! As such I know that compared to what is about at the moment you can get better for £1400 going by your "needs welding, no mot" description. I was simply trying to help in my first post. Why would I be...

    r reg disco for sale

How can it be mint yet need welding? Didn't realise they sold the buggers brand new with rot already set in!

    r reg disco for sale

If it had a new mot and no welding to be done you might have a chance. Saying that you don't even say if it's a V8, gas or Tdi, that'll make a big difference.

    Scared from Bristol!

Ignore the horror stories, just have a look at how many old discos are still on the road compared to other 4x4's. I've had four d1's, not one of them has ever left me stranded by the side of the road. Nuff said :D

Buying my first Discovery. What else to check?

Silly amount to pay for a 2001 disco. Love it when a car is described as "thousands recently spent, no expense spared" - means it's a unreliable money pit. You can get a perfectly good D2 for half that money privately, if you need a warranty they can be picked up for a few hundred quid. And...

    Ghost car???

Back door easy, take the badge off and apply wd40 to springs/mechanism. You'll find it won't open intermittently (eventually failing altogether) until you've done this.

    auto vs manual

To As I said, I've had both. I understand fully how to get a Disco moving in mud, and it's always been easier in a manual than a auto. Sand, dust or other might be different, I can only comment on what I use a Disco for.

To Where is the fun it that? Get to know your car and how it works, then go where the auto amatures dare not!
