    filled up with petrol today....

Thanks, yea 90 litres so pretty much 25% petrol. Have put some oil in and will re-fuel every day (approx 40-50 miles). It seems ok.

    filled up with petrol today....

...in my 300tdi. Well 20 litres anyway. Yes I know, prat. Anyhow, brimmed it with diesel and all good. But what would you do know, would you refill every few gallons or run it until nearly empty? Also would you put some oil in the tank to make up for lost lubricant? Cheers.

Fifty quid for petrol should do then :D

Don't expect the cruise to work, they rarely do and who needs it anyway! Easy fix if you must have it, usually corroded pipes, never bothered myself. You don't say how far away it is, but take five hundred quid or so for fuel money getting it home.

    Manual Vs Auto

But there's a reason you can drive a auto with a manual licence, but not vice-a-versa :D

    Manual Vs Auto

You'll be needing that BMW M5 then, you don't have to do a thing, have a kip if you like. Until you come to a hill, snow, mud, ice, sand, puddle.......

    Manual Vs Auto

So we will get the same results if we swap cars? That'll be the test, and one I have done having owned both and used in the same situations. And I posted earlier how that turned out! I'm up for this, perhaps we could get a number of members to join in so we get a more balanced result?

    Manual Vs Auto

That's my scene then :) And I get to keep the sidesteps, which is good as I like the look of them, although never use them.

    Manual Vs Auto

I'll come along as well, it's my neck of the woods. And I don't mind making a tit of myself, or loosing my side steps!

    Manual Vs Auto

Not if you are comparing a manual Td5 to a auto one. I'm just saying you need to compare like with like. Surely that makes sense, doesn't it?

    Manual Vs Auto

Yes, but this thread is relation to auto and manual boxes on a twenty year old UK Discovery 1. I'm sure what that link says is all correct regarding new cars in the states.

    Manual Vs Auto

The BMW example isn't relevant as it's realitively simple to computer control a car round a clinical race track. Has a similar thing been done off road? I would imagine a person would beat the computer every time.

    Manual Vs Auto

OK, you're having trouble understanding my point of view. Here it is simplified - A manual box is the only way to have full control over your engine. A auto box will be better for the inexperienced. I've had both, as I've said, and for what I need the auto wasn't a patch on a manual. A...

    Manual Vs Auto

You'll struggle to find a manual anywhere in the states.

    Manual Vs Auto

Mi Isn't it odd just how defensive some auto drivers are! Never thought to pit my 1998 300Tdi manual against a BMW M5 auto. I don't understand the comparison when we are talking about Landy boxes, totally set up for different uses

    Manual Vs Auto

If you are a crap driver, who doesn't understand how to use a gear box to it's full advantage, then you'll always be better off in a auto. If you are the best off road driver in the world, but only now drive round a city centre, you're better off in a auto. It's all down to what you use the...

    Manual Vs Auto

Experience is all I have to go by, and for me a manual works and a auto is inferior. I've had both and can see the advantages of both - auto for mainly road use, manual for off road. More newer cars are fitted with autos as they are used for our congested roads where a auto box rules.

    Manual Vs Auto

I agree re town driving, auto is best. Off road not so much. I guess it depends on your experience, if you work in an office and use a Land Rover as a hobby for pay and play days, then yes a auto will be better. If you are working with the car in mud and muck, day in day out, then you'll want...
