    Series 3 Mysterious bracket

An outboard motor might be more the kind of thing. I'm starting to think it might be something very specialised. I think the vehicle might have been used at an airport once so maybe it could be some bit of unusual equipment. A pity, I was really hoping for some kind of extra fuel carrying...

    Series 3 Mysterious bracket

I tried to get a hi-lift to fit just now but no luck. I was hoping it might be for some type of Jerry can but hasn't worked on any of the ones I have.

Series 3 High Torque Starter Thingy

My high torque one is great. The standard starter is fine for most of the year but it is poor in very cold weather. So, if it stands outside and you drive it in the snow and ice I'd upgrade.

    Series 3 Mysterious bracket

This bracket was attached to the back of my land rover when I bought it. It was mounted vertically to the right of the rear door with the hooks at the bottom. Any ideas what it might be?

Series 3 Oil Pressure Light Spookyness

It is now fixed. It seems to have been an issue with the pump. Either the pump wasn't getting a seal where it was mounted to the engine case or there was grit in the bore of the pressure release valve holding it open. Thank you for all your help. You guys got me there.

    Series 3 Wrong Oil Pump?

I just fitted my new oil pump. There was a nagging feeling about how it fits so i looked under the injector pump and saw a large gap between the top of the drive shaft and the bottom of the circlip. Is this normal? Have I got the right pump? Is there a missing circlip (are there meant to be two)?

Series 2 Military fuel tank removal/repair

I'm not pretending to be an expert but I found the removal of the mil tank really easy. Just watch out for the weight. I caught it with the side of my head. This was my method for removing the tank: DISCONNECTING AND REMOVING THE FUEL TANK Be careful with the tank as it is made of aluminium...

    Series 3 Oil Debris

and it all must go? I'm guess the answer is "yes" but i'm really hoping for cheery "no"

    Series 3 Oil Debris

I'm was preparing to fit a new oil pump (https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/oil-pressure-light-spookyness.332578/) and noticed a layer of greasy grit (i'm guessing carbon deposit) in the bore that the oil pump fits into. I've checked around the crank and in the tappet gallery but can't find...

Series 3 Oil Pressure Light Spookyness

I've stripped the pump and can't see anything obviously wrong. Thanks for pointing out my mistake. I have a shot with that jobby out the way. I guess it is the lower half of this gear that drives the pump. Can anyone spot anything wrong with it? I realise it isn't the best photo.

Series 3 Oil Pressure Light Spookyness

They say it is never the oil pump @Bobsticle but i'm really hoping it is the problem in my case. Mine is in the post and i'm out of other options. I had a look at the quill gear. Everything looks nice and tight and oily. I'm going to take apart the pump and see if the pressure valve is the...

Series 3 Oil Pressure Light Spookyness

The oil pump shaft feels firmly slotted in. I can't turn the shaft by hand when it is engaged in the threads up in the engine block. The same goes for when the other end is placed in the pump. I can look at the quill shaft and gears by taking off the injection pump and pulling the quill shaft...

Series 3 Oil Pressure Light Spookyness

The strangeness continues. I took off all the testing equipment and before refitting the pressure switch i started the engine without anything in the hole. I expected a small trickle of oil but it shot out like a firehose and covered the engine bay with oil. I put the tester on and got 40psi of...

Series 3 Oil Pressure Light Spookyness

I used this one (sorry, it is in Swedish) - https://www.biltema.se/bil---mc/verkstadsutrustning/testinstrument/oljetrycksmatarset/oljetrycksmatarset-2000040923 As there are no other symptoms other than low oil pressure i'm starting to think it could be the pressure release valve in the pump. No...

Series 3 Oil Pressure Light Spookyness

I am re reading the workshop manual. It mentions a gasket and sealant for the pump fitting. I didn't do this. Could that be causing the problem?

Series 3 Oil Pressure Light Spookyness

I have now plugged in a pressure tester and I get 0psi. Absolutely nothing. I know it is rare but could this be a broken pump? The pump turns freely with the spindle. The mechanism feels good but maybe there is more to a functioning pump than free movement.

Series 3 Oil Pressure Light Spookyness

Right. I'm doing all this in order of lowest cost first. Thank you. Oil pressure gauge is on my shopping list. I'm guessing cam bearing will be the last I try and also the most likely to be at fault (though i'd guess a bit of noise from this but maybe i'm wrong).

Series 3 Oil Pressure Light Spookyness

My oil pressure light came on close to home so I stopped the engine and pushed it home. The temperature was normal and it has just had a 20 minute drive. I checked for leaks and checked there was plenty of oil in the sump and up in the tappet gallery. All looked fine. I then restarted the...

Series 3 Hot spot (pre combustion chamber) fitting

I needed to replace the head gasket recently and noticed that the hot spots had some small cracks. I was told that they were not a big issue as they were but I plan to replace them. I want to know if I can do it on the drive way or will the new hot spots need to be pressed in. Also, does the...
