    Pumped Cookin oil!!

Bit of confusion there me thinks. Bio is a direct replacement for diesel and can be used no probs, adding veg oil to the tank does not make bio. You don't need to blend bio cos it's already been processed to remove the nasties to make it ok for dieso engines. B100 is 100% biodiesel, B90 90%...

Freelander XEDi EGR - To be removed or not to be removed?

Yes they do have an EGR. Disabled mine on my hippo with no noticeable effect. Haven't removed it, just unplugged the little air pipe on it, presume it has the same effect.

Need some advice from freelander owners

Unfortunately yes, all my fault cos I waited untill it was knackered before I fixed them.

Need some advice from freelander owners

I've had mine a while now and it's been perfect........apart from VCU failure, IRD failure, rear door leaks like @#!$ when it so much as threatens to rain, 2 doors will not lock with the remote, wiper linkages severly worn (one wiper actaully fell off to the side in the rain once), anti roll bar...

Freelander Bio Diesel or Veg Oil

I've not had any problems. Fitted mine by cutting the hose that feeds into the filter and putting it inline there.

Freelander Bio Diesel or Veg Oil

That's exactly what i've done with mine (on 85/15 veg/dieso), just make sure you get the largest one available so you still get the flow rate.

    Our Brilliant PM

I think 'peeps' don't mind paying forsomething if IT'S THIER OWN CHOICE. Having money taken out of thier pocket against thier will is wrong no matter how you look at it.

    Transfer Box ??

The answeris actaully YES the IRD is at fault. Pre 2001 IRD's had a design fault where LR had not given the correct gear ratio in the transfer box and is why freelanders had such a bad reputation with regard to the drive train. To make the Freelander handle well the front wheels are driven...

    Newbie & Intermittent 3 amigo's

The sensors can be checked with the aid of a multimeter. Disconnect the plug from the sensor (e.g.for the front they are under the bonnet near the wheel arch, passenger side is behind the battery) and do a resistance check. You should get somewhere between 1 and 1.5 KOhms. If you get this...

    Transfer Box ??

I had excatly the same symptoms as yourself and it was definately the transfer box. After replacement I stripped the old box and found broken gear teeth, completerly collapsed bearings (roller pins no longer in existence) and about two inches of play in the (i think) crown wheel and shaft. I...

    biodiesel

Running my L series on SVO 85/15 veg/dino with no probs so bio should be no problem as this has been treated to remove anything that would cause poblems.

    Freelander XEDI veggie oil

No probs starting the Hippo this morning on the 85/15 veg/dino mix. Done two keys of the glow plugs then she fired afterabout 2 seconds of cranking. The new battery seems to have done the trick.

    Freelander XEDI veggie oil

Don't think bio or veg oil will corrode copper. Could have been the case with higher sulpher fuels where the sulpher combines with water to form sulphuric or sulphorous acid which will attack metals. This was a bigger problem when engines were run on low loads for a while. As veg and bio are...

    Freelander XEDI veggie oil

Here's a quote from wikipedia: "Biodiesel has better lubricating properties than that of today's diesel fuels. During the manufacture of these, to comply with low SO2 engine emission limits set in modern standards, severe hydro-treatment is included. Biodiesel addition reduces wear[17]...

    Freelander XEDI veggie oil

if it's proper bio there should be no problem, if you start to experience cold starting problems when the temp drops then start to add dieso to aid your cold starting. I have just run virtually empty (intentional) and then put 20L of 100% straight (from makro) soya oil in my tank to see if it...

    Intake manifold gasket questions

Just a quick one, has anyone ever looked up the meaning of Merkin. Check wiki (when you do remember, as stated by Mr Bush, all Septics are Merkins!!!)LOL.:p

    Freelander XEDI veggie oil

The nasty chemicals used to produce bio are methanol and caustic soda which are used to remove the glycerine from the oil to enable it to be used at cold temperatures. This can be done with waste or new oil. I think that WVO can be filtered to at least 5 micron and have the water removed then...

    Freelander XEDI veggie oil

A few points: 1. Vegetable oil DOES NOT rot rubber seals. 2. If you get some bad bio (home made) an excess of methanol can degrade rubber. 3. The fuel system on the L series is a Bosch system - isn't Bosch German? 4. The problem can come from the gumming of components, be warned, it is not a...
