Moto Lita steering wheel boss thread length

Here's a quick boxing day question. I was lucky enough to get a rather nice Moto Lita wheel for Christmas, however, when I came to fit it the thread of the shaft only protrudes about 5mm from the boss of the wheel meaning the nut only goes on half way. Does anyone know why this may be? The...

    Sound Proofing Defender 90 TD5

Nice one Morgan. I already have some new seals on the way as I can see through to the road outside if I angle my head properly. I'm hoping that will help quite a bit. I like the sound of the bonnet foam as well so may get me some of that over Christmas. I shall report back with my findings.

    Sound Proofing Defender 90 TD5

Don't worry, Trax. I've got those grommets absolutely covered in sound deadening! Even the ones under the bonnet where the wires enter for the dash. It's just where the pedals enter teh cab that I can't fully insulate. I think my engine could do with a service so it may be worth looking in to...

Defender TD5 90 station wagon stereo upgrade

From experience, the best upgrade you can make is to raise the tweeters as I said in your other post. If you really don't want to drill out that extra inch to allow 130mm speakers to fit then I would advise you get something like this Car Audio Equipment | Buy online at Car Audio Security and...

    Sound Proofing Defender 90 TD5

My final update then. I thought I would try a baseline test yesterday and the result was quite interesting. I tested the background outside noise which was 58-90dB. I then sat in my Defender with doors and windows shut. It only decreased to 48-50dB! To give you a comparison, my Dad's 5 series...

    Sound Proofing Defender 90 TD5

I will go for a longer/faster drive tomorrow but essentially yes. I was a tad harsh and it is quieter but it isn't £170 quieter, more like £20 quieter if you know what I mean. I have near 100% coverage of silentcoat on the front and rear footwells, bulkhead, and rear of cab. I have 50%...

    Sound Proofing Defender 90 TD5

No worries about sharing my findings, everyone's been helpful to me so I'm glad I can return the favour! For the blocking of engine noise I will say one thing. Make absolutely sure your vents are done up. I usually pull mine up until they are stiff, then lock them off. I yanked on them today...

    Sound Proofing Defender 90 TD5

I have gone for the music approach too. 1600 watts and 7 speakers seems to just about do the job! I think you will be right about the fuel consumption. Not something I will look forward to at all. It will be a pain in the arse to remove it as well so it looks like it's all there to stay. I...

    Sound Proofing Defender 90 TD5

So, I would like to say how excellent it is to have a nice quiet Defender, however, after spending 2 days filling my car with 40kg of soundproofing I can say that really, there is no difference from how it was before. The road noise is probably less but let's be honest it's nearly all engine...

    Sound Proofing Defender 90 TD5

Cheers for that g-mack! I will have a look and see if I can get some. I do already have a headliner so I'm hoping it's not entirely necessary but I like the idea of putting it behind the dash. I did wonder how I was going to get the sound deadening behind there as removing the dash is a right...

Seemingly redundant purple/red and purple/yellow wires

Speaker wires it is then! I will just tuck them back where I found them then and pretend I didn't see them as I have just spent the last 3 days making holes for/wiring up some speakers!

    Sound Proofing Defender 90 TD5

Right guys, I just spent £175 on products today and they will be delivered Monday and hopefully fitted pretty damn soon after. I have done a few test runs and I seem to get between 95 and 100dB at 55mph with no sound deadening. I will report back with my findings early next week. Just so you all...

    Cheap tricks required!

I don't know if you can still do it on a TD5 but you can try cranking the fuel pump. Everyone seems to suggest that works well, I didn't get much of a gain mind, just more smoke! http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f8/sluggish-disco-not-any-more-146991.html

Seemingly redundant purple/red and purple/yellow wires

Well that is interesting as I have no speakers in the vehicle. Oh well, thanks.

    Sound Proofing Defender 90 TD5

Sambora, I too was tempted by the 4mm stuff but after thinking about it I reckon it's not worth it as it is still only the vibration reducing stuff, not the sound blocking stuff. As Trax mentioned, a 25% coverage is usually enough to reduce the vibrations and so buying a product twice as thick...

    Sound Proofing Defender 90 TD5

I'm literally in the process of buying sound deadening for my Defender and have done quite a lot of research. I don't know what the material is in the kit from Paddocks, it just looks like carpet to me. Anyway, for what it's worth, my research has suggested you need to reduce the sound generated...

    Dash speaker location

I plan to make my own spacer from MDF so hopefully that will work. Thanks for the information. Sounds like a good location Lurch, but I have a double cab so I have had to put mine behind the rear seats and even amplified they are not loud enough above 40mph haha.

Seemingly redundant purple/red and purple/yellow wires

Once again I require further help. I took the small part of the passenger side dash off my 300Tdi defender so as to cut a hole for a speaker but out fell a couple of unconnected wires. They have connectors on the end but have no obvious destination (see picture). The wires appear to come off the...

    Dash speaker location

Thanks for that James. I knew they were originally 10cm but I saw a 13cm upgrade kit on Mud Stuff so I thought I would go straight to that. I guess I will just try to squeeze it on the removable part then!

    Dash speaker location

Hi guys, I have what is potentially a very basic question here. I have moved upmarket from a 110 MoD Defender to a 300Tdi 130, however, none of them came with a radio. I have gone to great lengths to fit some speakers in the back but as it's such a loud vehicle you can't really hear them from...
