the oil will usually go this colour if there is water mixing with it, could be thru the axle breather, or hub seals they're a 2 way thing, if oil can get out, water can get in. or if the oil was low, could be caused by condensation build up in the diff over a period of time. I changed the oil...

one should come with the new breather, however if not, try you local motor factors, (not halfords they only want to sell you a box full) your local factor should have some behind the counter and should only cost a few pence

I am about to do the same job, bought a 500ml bottle with the long spout to fill the diff's up from , but also grabbed a 5ltr can from work as well (to top up the smaller bottle) makes it easier to judge how much your sticking in as well, roughly 3 and a half bottles per axel.

Had same problem after replacing head gasket on my Tdi300, just found easiest way was to fill slowly thru top of thermostat housing, tightening screw/bolt down, running engine till gauge showed warm, letting it cool , then repeat process, takes a while, but did work for me.

from what i can make out earlier 300's had different seat belt achorages to later ones. ie one was bolted to the floor or thereabouts the other is to the seat base. which way around it is im not sure. but other than that i am not aware of any major differences, although i feel certain i will...

Starting at the beginning, have recently renewed head gasket, p gasket and most other gaskets on the top end. have had head resurfaced and crack tested. but now since putting back together the damn thing doesnt want to start. it turns over ok, but sounds like there is no compression. thought...

any good motor factor should be able to sort one out for u. i use famous four as well, cant fault the service.

Going to have to weld my boot floor up soon, Have a few friends in the trade who will lend me a mig to do the job, think its just a confidence thing. Not wanting to cut something out that i shouldnt of cut. Still i wont have to worry about cutting under the rear seat, its a continous hole...

Got the same problem on my Disco 300, Expansion bottle split, apparently a common thing, and "P" Gasket also leaking, so while i have the front out, will also replace the core plug just in case, nothing worse than putting it all back together and something else going in the same area a month...
