My first ever land rover, series 3, 88"

Decided today was going to be the day to get it out from under the tarp, It was on its last legs, with the wind and rain battering it. I'm hoping it'll give me some inspiration having to face it daily on the drive. It is suprising how much is left to do, all little jobs though.

    The Restoration Hall of Shame

This was one of the deciding factors that made me get a new chassis, someone went to the trouble of welding the underside, but because the engine was in, I guess ignored the inside.

    Doors out of square

I have put a new galvanised chassis on. The other day I measured from the front of the chassis to the bulkhead on drivers side, the the same from passenger side and they are the same. I will have to do the same I think from the back somewhere, to two identicle places near the door positions...

    Doors out of square

I put my drivers door on, on the weekend, it fit a treat with no adjusting. The passenger door which I put on the other week is being a pig. One thing I have noticed, is that the size of the door opening, from striker plate to bulkhead is 6mm wider on the passenger side, than on drivers side. I...

My first ever land rover, series 3, 88"

Decided to have a go at the seat box today, New end sections from Paddocks. I made a new rear support angle too, a little thicker than the one i took off, but that was all corroded., and would'nt have last much longer. Stripped years of multi coloured paint off too,( paint stripper and a...

    Doors out of square

Hi all, I got around to hanging a door today, as my series 3 has been tied up for the last 10 months due to ongoing restoration. The door is sitting way out of square to the body at the top. The bottom of the door seems parallel to the bulkhead, but as it follows wind screen its all out. As your...

My first ever land rover, series 3, 88"

Rear lights and number plate added now. I had a problem at first getting the indicators to work, which was frustrating as I had a new loom, new indicators. It turned out it was a faulty relay.:D

Side windows are back in now, with a dark smoke tint. Eventually the rear door and alpine roof windows will have a tint. I think the tint looks good with the matt black.
