Manual gearbox oil cooler - removal.

Thanks guys for your replies, I just wondered how necessary the oil cooler was and if I ever get problems with split oil pipes or whatever I might remove it but the cars running great at the moment so I'll just leave everything alone.

Hi Cirrus, bought myself a Mig welder from Machine Mart a few years ago, saved myself a fortune doing repairs etc to my old classic rangie. Practice makes perfect.

Manual gearbox oil cooler - removal.

Yeah well the car is running fine at the moment and I'll leave everything as it is but I just wondered why it had been fitted as standard. Maybe they were fitted in case the cars were exported to hot countries where a gearbox oil cooler may be necessary. Anyway thanks for your thoughts.

Manual gearbox oil cooler - removal.

Thanks Datatek, It's just that on my old classic 200 tdi with an LT77 gearbox it didn't have an oil cooler on the gearbox and I dont think a discovery with an R380 gearbox has an oil cooler so why does my p38 with an R380 gearbox have a gearbox oil cooler fitted?

Manual gearbox oil cooler - removal.

Hi Guys, I was wondering if it is necessary to have a gearbox oil cooler on my p38 2.5 with a manual gearbox as I don't tow heavy loads with the car and its not doing heavy work like thrashing over the Alps or anything. It just seems a bit unnecessary on a car that is not working hard, any...

    NDD!(new disco day)

welcome TDisntelecasters, sounds like you got a good disco 300tdi with only 86k on the clock, get it steamcleaned and waxoyled underneath to keep the old tin worm at bay and it'll last for years.

Emmotts of Colne - Disgusting service

Hi AntDB74, all I can say is that I have dealt with Emmotts on a few occasions and I have had no problems with them and I have been over to their garage/warehouse to have work done and spoken to joe who runs the business and found him to be ok and helpful. Hope you get sorted. ps I have no...

    hello all, advice please

Hi juley, a disco with a 200tdi or 300tdi will be a good tow vehicle, better than a p38 with a 2.5 diesel and probably better than a V8 petrol. Plenty of low down grunt with a tdi and you can turn the fuel up on the diesel pump for even more power if you want to. Fit a KN type air filter and...

Yes the old tin worm is a big problem on the classic rangie, thats what usually finishes them off altogether and yet the p38 is not troubled so much with rust only electrical gremlins. I would keep your classic going for as long as you can.

Hi Rustystuff, welcome to the fold, I had a classic with a 200 tdi did over 240,000 miles in it never let me down in 8 years, great motor wish I still had it. Then I bought a p38, the start of all my motoring troubles.

    Hi from sw Scotland

Welcome roveerman, only get a p38 if you have plenty of spare cash and patience. If you've got both then get a 2.5 diesel with a manual gearbox and not too high a mileage on the clock. Nice car to drive and comfortable too and you'll be a regular visitor to this site.
