I changed the axles on my defender a few years ago. The quickest way is to just bolt in the complete axles and bleed the brakes, lot less hassle than messing about changing hubs etc. Mike

How far did you drive it with it overheated ? If the engine gets too hot the liners move in the block and dodn't sit properly. The head can also go soft so that when you change the gasket it works for a while then it goes again. The k series engine is a very fickle engine. Push the liners...

It definately looks like the head gasket had similar problems on my mgf. If you do the job then check the cylinder liners are protruding slightly. If they aren't then you will be waisting your time. I use the new multilayer gasket and haven't had any problems since, but YOU must check the water...
