You need to look beyond the detritus. Most of the allegedly amusing responses come from non Freelander owners. I have no idea why but I maintain its a pack behaviour. You will get more relevant responses if you actually ask the question on the Freelander section, but the pack frequents that bit...

They probably look good - for my '05 I think drill one side is only option. I would like some BUT - remember they are cheap plastic and not a metal guard. It has always put me off. Better to have none than cheap plastic - but only my opinion.
