I wouldn't weld sheet metal over the rust best thing to do is get wire wheel on an angle grinder and see how much of it is surface any holes cut out and replace with good metal

Well got some proper metal into the chassis today gave up in the end due to sun and heat nowhere near where I wanted to be with it today now retired to the sofa to draw up plans for the workshop which will make life a lot easier

Another mile stone reached today, engine and front axle out then flipped the chassis over amazing the uses you can find for an engine crane!! Started chopping out some of the rot and soon realised it was worse than I thought

Yh deffo see the difference and a huge cost saving, was going to crack on today getting engine and axle off but it's been blowing a gale here all day

So had a bit of time away doing farm duties rebuilding mother in laws engine and few bits and pieces, finally got the top of chassis finished bit the bullet and converted welder to the big bottles what a difference its made. Engine stand has eventually arrived so tomorrow its engine and front...

No worries I still don't know when I'm back to work yet apart from Wales is on lock down for another 3 weeks

Be careful with craddocks at the minute they are taking a very long time to send and process orders and don't respond to emails all the time my other half had a nightmare with them and seen a fair few others with the same issues

The bottom is in a bad way but is fairly straight forward as will be straight lengths no curves as such still the rear cross member to fabricate but got to save a bit so can buy a sheet of 3mm steel instead of 2mm then once the chassis is complete save for the outriggers and spring seats job...

Finally I have reached the first mile stone in the build top and outer side of the chassis are now solid with all welding done bare metal has been red oxide coated and everything else has a coat of fertan now its time to pull the engine and front axle and flip the chassis over :)

Even better when it costs nothing sheet metal is costing me a fortune at the minute

Always a bonus when the colour matches and an old shelf is the perfect thickness

Knew the bodies were bad but this is the worst 300 chassis I have seen but its slowly coming back to life with a lot of fabrication work should last another 20+ years after this is complete

Yh joy is because of where the chassis is 3 foot behind the offside of chassis is a 15 foot drop into the back garden so it was just a case of wait for the wind to drop and blast a bit of weld between the gusts

Cheers took most of the afternoon that part building new strengtheners and cardboard templates then fighting the wind

So got the side of the chassis buttoned up today all that is left is one small patch on top of chassis and stupid shape at end of the tube crossmember then the chassis can be flipped over and rest of repairs done.
