At 150 miles it works out to 22.7mpg - exactly the same as my 1.8 petrol for the same kind of journeys.

I pulled the wire off the starter motor this morning, gave the terminal a bit of a wipe then refitted the wire. So far no more problems! Phew!!

Chr*st I hope not!!! I did a search on here and saw there have been a few people with exactly the same fault, which appears to be a bad/loose connection to the starter motor. Now...... if only I could find out where the starter motor is I could have a look. Can someone give me a clue please?

I'm sure I read about a way of changing this over (back to the "search" again!) so the thermostat is on the outlet side from the engine. Ok, I've done the searchs and am even more scared now! But, just to get this right in my head, is it coolant loss/overheating that causes the HGF or the HGF that causes the coolant loss/overheating?
