I've run used engine oil, used gearbox oil, used transfer box oil and used axle oil without any problems. Filter it first to get the lumps out.

I suppose it's that and an idea of how long you want it to last... As i'll probably need a glaze buster device, any recommendations?

I've only bought two britpart items so far for my TD5. A fuel filter, and a sump drain plug that has a slightly undersized head. Both ok for the money, but not as important as a piston ;)

Father in law dragged it there for me. He has much more space that I have here. I picked it up cheap enough and if i get it running i'm going to try and convince her indoors to drive it :) if not, it'll become parts.

I'll hopefully get the piston out and clean the head up the next time i visit the outlaws. The outlaws are down your neck of the woods.

If the bore hasn't been damaged by the melted piston and its debris it'll be standard bore :) I've still to scrape the impacted aluminium from the head and see if that's buggered too.

So... If the bore hasn't been buggered it should be a case of un bolt leg no. 4 from the crank and replace the piston. Bolt it back in? From what i;ve been told, this engine was a decent runner before it decided to have a tantrum and offer its piston to the gods. 136k miles on it i think...

Yup. Other three seem fine, only no. 4 decided to party. Anyone any ideas why its done this? Is it repairable?

No worries though. The missing bits are stuck to the head :)
