The haynes pictures are mono so it'd hard to tell, but it looks like a plain locknut. I've not taken the air bag off yet so haven't seen mine.

The haynes bumper book of fun says to discard the steering wheel retaining nut and fit a new one when refitting the steering wheel. Is this a special nut or are haynes being overly cautious?:confused:

Thanks for that. Most of my test journey was at 2000 RPM and above, but not speedy as such. I'll take it on a longer run and see how it fares.

I've flushed my cooling system out, put on a new thermostat and have taken the discovery for a spin. It took about the same time as usual for the temp gauge to wander up toward the middle of its range and for the heater to start doing something useful, so nothing obviously untoward. I've just...

That's the feller! Thank you. The cooling system is all original and the hole that the restrictor would fit in is already seemingly ristricted internally. I'll pop it back in though now I know where it lives :) My TD5 is not my friend at the moment. I've just finished putting it all back...

It is hollow. Small hole at the pointy end. Larger hole at the other end. Made of Aluminium. I've got the radiator, intercooler, grill and the chassis coolant rail off at the mo so wondered if it had come of them, but there's nothing obviously missing...

Whilst fitting the replacement steering box today I heard a tell tale sound of something metal falling from the engine bay and hitting the ground... Is this part of my Discovery or is it a piece of random junk that's been living in my engine bay for a while?

Hopefully these pictures of the steering box bolts showing actuator positions for access will help someone else.

K'nell! It'd better be made of stainless for that money instead of cheap stuff the original is made of. Is it worth the effort of refitting the undertray when i'm done in the engine bay?

There's a cunning method :) Lower suspension for access to the top two, lift the car off the stands for the bottom two. I'll take a couple of pictures when i get to taking the box off to help anyone else that's going to be doing the same. Engine undertray bolts don't have heads any more and...

Folks, Have any of you replaced a steering box on a TD5 Disco with ACE? Two of the steering box mounting bolts are obscured by the front ACE actuator assembly. Does the actuator need to come off or is there a cunning method of getting it out of the way of the bolts?

I've had my 2002 TD5 from new. It had a new injector loom and a window regulator in it's second year, but other than service items it hasn't needed anything else yet. It's just been for this years MOT and passed without any advisories.

I thought that at first, but I've found oversize pistons denoted as ERR2410010 ERR24010020 etc.

What's the difference between these two pistons? ERR2410 is available from most parts places, but no ERR2412...
