any tips for boosting 2.5TD performance?

Sorry to but in one somebody elses argument, but when TMHM said the unswept VOLUME has not changed i can't see how that is true, because if you increase the diameter of the cylinder, and clearly the volume of the unswept part of the cylinder (excluding the recess in the piston) is pi x (d/2)x...

no power to starter i think

Or bladdy dangerous, friend put a hole in the roof of his landy by trying the same thing with the battery to "see it was working" using a spanner. The spanner get wedged between the two terminals, started to heat up rapidly, and started to expand making it impossible to remove until the pressure...

What's the Deepest you've ever taken your Defender?

The trick is to fix air tanks in the back, to feed the engine and your lungs then you can go as deep as your body will take the pressure. Oh and thanks for the endorsement of my new degree course :) I think for the cost of a snorkle v the cost off a new engine and the time to fit it, unless...

    Alternator/Battery problems

Sounds like a dead short in the alt. Most likely in the static coils - alternators don't have permant magnets in them, they rely on the battery to energise two of the coils to create the magnetic field. You can eitherr take it aprt and see if there is anything obviously shorting it out, or...

safest way of jacking up a defender?

I carry a trolloy jack with me behind the seats - the standard halfords 2tonne one fits nicely behind the drivers seat - as long as like me - you don't have long legs. But either way - id put in on the chassis or an axel if i were you, or even the front bumper was used one - not very safe...

What's the Deepest you've ever taken your Defender?

Ok people - some basic physics here - water is heaver than air - that's why it's on the ground :) - a defender has the air intake on the side of the wing , around half way up. Therefore logic dictates that if you have the bonnet under water this will be as well. As I'm sure some people...

    2.5 N/A engine question.

The threaded hole is a drain hole that is there to let dust and debris out of the bell housing. It's threaded to allow you to put a plug (can get them off eBay) in there if your going wading and don't want the clutch getting wet. Don't fill it up if your read oil seal is leaking as the oil will...

    Exhaust systems 200tdi 90

Putting mild steal and stainlless together and heating it up will cause corrosion between the two dissimilar metals, however to what extent this occurs and which one will corrode more is down to the grade of stainless you get supplied with. A4 stainless is designed to be submersed in water all...

Help needed 90 2.5NA starting issues

Bulb blow ? But being serious have you put a meter between the glow plug and the body to check you are getting power to them? The tdi should start without the plugs being heated unless it's very cold where you are.

    Clutch breaked free....

It's either going to sort its self out, stay like this an work, or disintegrate it's self. Only time will tell. I know there expensive but it may well have been worth taking the plates off the fly wheel and freeing them / replacing it before you put the engine in!

I guess were talking with full wading kit fitted and not a standard defender with the it intake on the side of the wing?
