19j cut out and will not start?

Hi mate - just got your msg. Sounds as if it could be a fuel issue, however there are a million and one other reasons why as well, but let's start with the fuel. The easiest (but slightly messy way of testing it is to slaken off one of the nuts holding the injector pipe to the injector and turn...

How fast does your landy go...

Two other things to check out:- check your transfer box to make sure sombody has not replaced it with a range rover or some other box with a stupid ratio in it - should be 1:1.4 if its a defender one. Other thing to check is to remove the intercooler, and flush it out as if its full of muck...

    Wipers not resetting and stuff

The other way of doing it is to go to a place where the tester lets you be around, and then jump in and show him the wipers working -and switch them off at the right time! - Worked for me last year as well as the washers sprayer not working well! However they are both easy to fix - the wiper...

    Gearbox

Well been away for a few days after causing chaos in a block of flats after I managed to revers into one of the main supporting pillars in the underground carpark. A small dent occured to the rear over riders, however the pillar with 5 floors of flats ontop was slightly more damaged! Anyway...

    j 19 injection pump

Which seals are you taking about? If its the ones around the spindles then the set on mine came from B&Q (plumbing o-rings!) They have lasted 3 years without any problems - they were the only ones I could get on a sunday afternoon! Any Lucas diesel center will be able to get you the proper...

    Serious electrical problem!!

Agreeded with above. The fuel guage works on the earth - i.e. the power goes to the guage then onto the sensor and then earths there. The sensor alters the resistance in the circuit and hence changes the position of the guage. Easy way to check whats going on it to remove the cables going to...

    solenoid qs

The longer the cable length then the more resistance there is and hence the higher the volatge drop and the hotter they get. However the biger the cable you use (its the cross sectional area this is important, with is a square of the radius) the less the inate resitance of the cable...

    good or bad

I got 16 mpg last weekend when I was do 80mph with the TD thrashing its b@locks off, and fully loaded!

    Clutch - HELP!!!

Which way up did you fit the slave cylinder - a clasic mistake it to fit it with the bleed nipple at the bottom which makies it imposibble to bleed out as the air rises to the top. If you want to do it quickly (and makes it much easier to flush though as well), go and get a Gunson Easy Bleed...

    Something gone wrong!

Was heading to southend today when the TD decied to suddently turn into a rocket! I thought i'd spend a few days giving it a good service (changing fuel filters, oil etc etc, but was not expecting this. It was cursing at over 80mph all they way, and accelerating past this going UP a hill...

    Intercooler pipes

Coming off the oil filter assembely on your old td/na and running to the left of the rad as you look at it from the front. It's a pain in the arse if your trying to change your oil on a cold winters afternoon as you can't get the oil hot enough!

    Window Washer?

I have a pump I don't want after some arse hole sold me the wrong one, it's been used. Is yours the one with a spike that pushes through a rubber gromet or does it have a 1/2 inch "pipe" that goes through. If it's the spike type I'll send you it if you want?

    Light Issues

Brake lights are wired as follows. Feed from ignition dependant circuits (i.e. on only when ignition switch is on) to brake light switch. Then from other side of switch two wires come off. one runs to each stop light (vech regs say each must be wired independantly. Best things to check are...

    Window Washer?

No - pumps are accessable via removing the front left side head light if you have an older landy - tank comes out for newer ones - should be obvious by looking at where the tank is to work out which one you have. I suspecta wire may have come off!

    At my wits end...

Sounds to me like the dim dip relay has packed up to me. Unplug it (black box with fins behind the dash panel (speedo counsole). Also where are you taking this reading from( accross the two terminals? If so check voltage between +ve and engine block(clean bit) and +ve cable and neg terminal of...

    Diesel injector pump needed

I replaced the seals on my Lucas one (looks like you have a 200/300 tdi if you have a Bosch pump) while it was on the engine - was a pain to do, and used orings from B&Q (as they were all i could get my hands on at the time) and 2 years later its still working - cost me £0.90!!
